Competitive Oceanic Players

Hey guys, just a question for my fellow oceanic players who consider themselves competitive, not just in wanting to complete dungeons or kill some guys in bg's, competitive as in being the best player you can be in any aspect.

For me personally, I am extremely competitive and one of the main reasons I play MMO's is because I am constantly faced with new people who make me strive to improve in my own skill. HOWEVER, with ESO I feel like it's truly impossible for us to compete on that level with American players, and it all comes down to our ping.

With my stable 280-300, I am unable to effectively block incoming attacks, dodge attacks, bar swap fluidly for DPS rotations and my light attack weaving bugs itself very often. As a result of this, I find myself stepping away from the game more and more, as a duel often ends in my absolute demise at little fault of my own, because the people I am up against have such a high advantage. I typically find myself in a lot better of a position when I duel or verse other oceanic players. I feel as though my skill is at a level that the game won't let me reach, which is the case for a lot of us oceanic players, as we try to block a NB open mid-combat or roll out of a frags but it simply does not register and I get hit anyway. This leaves us in the casual market, unloading on unsuspecting victims in BG's and attacking opponents who aren't facing us. I have recently been logging more into other MMO's that have oceanic servers which is a shame, because I truly love this game but it is no longer making me happy, rather frustrated at every turn.

TLDR: Do other oceanic players feel that it is impossible to compete at an elite level due to our ping? Highest DPS / 1vX in cyro/bg's etc

I didn't play with high ping myself but there's a bunch of people on EU who are from India, South Africa etc. that are really competitive in pvp and pve.
I've never played NA so the only person I've heard of who is "top tier" and has very high ping is Pelican eso.

So there are definitely top tier players with high ping since rotations can still be performed flawlessly and you can predict a lot of things in combat. But the latency will always extend your reaction time and if you can't deal with that you should not invest your time into eso while you have high ping.

In a lot of instances, rotations aren’t able to be performed well at all due to the speed at which you use skills and bar swap, the game is yet to recognise the previous skill you used and it results in something not being fired off or the bar not swapping and you continue your rotation on the wrong bar, which often happens to me.

People can definitely pull high DPS with high ping. In theory, your latency doesnt matter for a DPS rotation, assuming its stable. Now of course, depending on how much you rely on visual queues vs. being a human metronome is going to greatly impact how that plays out in practice.

Not sure what you are looking for here. Yes high ping is a disadvantage, and perhaps you would be the next Liko if you had double digit latency. The disadvantage is certainly more noticable if in a dueling situation and the other guy has better ping than you. That said, a lot of players are very competitive with high latency.

Edit: To Clarify, it is not Liko but Clive in that video. He is an aussie player i believe and his latency is always north of 200. He is also very competitive in VMA.

I'm in the same boat, ping 270 - 330+. I get still get frustrated, but learnt to accept that I can't compete with a decent player 1v1. I do enjoy group play though as it's much more forgiving. The problem is the performance/lag/desync appears to be getting worse.

AU player here. I agree it is often very hard to compete in PVP with players who have a better connection to the server. Most of my Oceanic region friends quit ESO because of this but I am still hanging around because I can still have fun in Cyro without being super competitive... zerg surfing & grouped play. It can be super frustrating at times.. especially with regard to position de-sync from the ping difference. I can be fully behind an LOS object (on my screen) & still be hit by single target melee skills because to the enemy player I am not behind an LOS object.

It is what it is. ZOS announced a few times that they are not going to have an Oceanic server so you have the choice of make the most of it & enjoy what you can... or leave the game behind & play games that don't have these issues.

Can be pretty funny sometimes, the other day we (DC) were seiging an AD keep when I got frozen and slid right through the keep door into the middle of about 30 AD. They were, of course, very forgiving and invited me to return to the other side... NOT!
