The case for Rattlecage on Pet Sorcs Post-Patch

I was theorycrafting with my group last night on how the upcoming changes to pet damage scaling will change our petsorc builds, if at all. If the changes do come down as proposed and we do need to add more spell damage to our builds, one solution we came up with would be to run Rattlecage on weapons/jewelry.

Why Rattlecage?

It will give approximately 400 or so raw spell damage with the updated stats (maybe more, I haven't done the exact math), and you also get 100% uptime on major sorcery. Generally speaking, there are better sets to give you raw spell damage, so the major sorcery isn't considered a great 5th armor piece bonus. However, on a petsorc, where your skill slots come at a higher premium, the saved skill slot could be pretty useful. Now, instead of slotting up critical surge or degeneration to get major sorcery (or using expensive pots - which I don't do on my petscorc), you just have it innately, allowing you to take an extra damage skill.

If I do end up using the set post-patch, I know I would probably replace crit surge with mages wrath, which would increase my DPS in execute phase as well as make my petsorc into an even better crowd wrecking machine!

So the improved rattlecage may not be considered a great mag DPS set in most situations, but I do think it will warrant some consideration on a pet sorc post-patch.

The PTS server is open (if you're on PC) to do some parse testing with Rattlecage, @BXR_Lonestar.

If you're up to it, you can post the parses in your thread here ... to compare your current Pet Sorc setup with a Rattlecage setup.

I've been doing a lot of healer parses on PTS already to test out some of the improved healer sets and updated game mechanics.

IMO it’s not worth using Rattlecage. Ideally just use potions for Major Sorcery, but Surge works fine too. With the change to Bloodthirsty, Mage’s Wrath is now weaker then it was before, especially if you decide to use Infused jewelry instead.

Yeah, Mages Wrath was the one question I had. That's been a forgotten skill by the devs for a while.

Yep MW was worth it when 3 BT increased damage by 30% in execute, but the new version averages about 11% increase during the 20% to 0% burn. It may still be worth using on some fights, but is much weaker than before,

MW was indirectly nerfed when they changed implosion passive, since then people more or less stopped running it (sometimes keep running it with X3 bloodthirsty). It should have been buffed since then to bring it's power up (main problem it had that in PvP implosion would be rng execute, so taking the average damage and adding it to Mage's wrath is way overdue)

I never thought of this. I might have to go back to the drawing board :/
