Hey I recently quit my previous mmo, ff14 on ps4, to try ESO again on xbox.
Anyone mind giving me a quick run down of changes/updates to the xbox version of the game. Last time I played this was just before Summerset launch.

I am currently playing a Khajiit Warden, with plans on being a tank. This is a fresh character, ran through the Elsweyr, and working on the Alliance/ Soul shriven story-line.

Some questions I have:
1) Me and my bf plan on playing together but he works a 12 hour, 2-2-3 alternating schedule, if I move forward with side quests/ main quest am I able to go back and help/join him? (when i last played some quests were instanced/phased making it hard to go back and help)

2) if i do a build that may not be meta, would I get shunned/bullied/ told off? My plan is to do ice staff warden as i like to play characters that subverts expectations. (was a tiny tank in ff14)

3) Is there away to customize the chat box? Like turning off some chat channels, darkening the back ground to be more opaque? I found zone chat to be pretty spammy, but i mainly text chat and do not want to turn it off.

Thanks for reading, I hope i enjoy what ESO, and the ESO community has to offer as im a big fan of the franchise. I'm just looking for a mmo to play that isn't ff14.

    Welcome back!!! 😁👍

    1) if you group up, going back and helping shouldn't be a problem from what I remember. Even if you've already blown passed that section

    2) you play however you want to play, and whatever way makes you happy. Your own enjoyment of the game ALWAYS comes first. Never let others make you forget that!

    3) I make another tab, and have only "direct messages/group messages" checked off and stay on that one to minimize the stale garbage in zone chat.

Ff14 was amazing! I played wayyy too many hours as a dragoon and made a killing off selling hard leather.

Yes, but not the MQ, which must be done solo. The entirety of the game is open to any player and any race (subject to game version you own).
If you wist to play in Cyrodil together, you must belong to the same alliance or kill each other. ;)

Yes, but you should ignore them. The game has generated "elitist" groups because it's the nature of any MMO where development pushes the boundaries many of the players don't care about.

However, these same "elitists" make it abundantly clear what they expect, and I have no issue with this. They're up front and honest about what they want, so if you don't meet their requirements, you shouldn't expect them to play with you and call you out on your attire.

You can either learn from them or ignore them.

    3) Is there away to customize the chat box? Like turning off some chat channels, darkening the back ground to be more opaque? I found zone chat to be pretty spammy, but i mainly text chat and do not want to turn it off.
Oh, dear girl, you are in for a world of hurt. There is absolutely very little customization you can do with the UI. You can either turn it on or off, but you cannot make it transparent or resize it. You do not get to control many of the elements on screen - it's all or nothing. Worse, in 2020, there will be no future where these options will ever be present in the game.

The chat window offers several "options" of who to communicate and how: group or whisper (one on one personal), but no customization beyond that.

FF14 is nothing like ESO, and I do mean nothing. For starters, you'll need to learn to weave in this game, something FF14 didn't have (because it was made right).

FF14 has cooldown timers on the actual spells, but in ESO, you'll need to set up settings to display them (including those from other players). Not all spells are visibly displayed, so you'll have to make mental countdown timers in your head. Fun stuff.

FF14 has severe limitations which is why I left the game. The grind from 30 - 50 was too horrendous, but this is where ESO shines. While there is a grind from 1 to 50, then CP to 810, it will go quickly as you simply play the game.

My advice starting out for you and your BF:
Once you make your characters, immediately start Skyshard hunting. Many online guides will show you where they're at, so grab them now. Don't wait. The game's leveling system is incredibly fast but its skill leveling is painfully slow. You'll need skill points quickly, so hunt! You can even offer to make hunting groups to make new friends quickly!

Start your researching now! Each piece has 9 traits and the last two take 30 days each (24 with all bonuses).
For armor, research Divines first! If you do not have armor with this trait, ask someone to make it. Many, such as myself, will gladly make you any piece you need for free. This trait is critical to have later, so research it now!

For weapons: Sharpened, Precise, and Nirnhoned (which requires the Potent Nirncrux trait stone, farmed in Craglorn). Getting these three out of the way now will be greatly appreciated when you're ready at higher levels.
Note about the Nirncrux stone: you can farm for it or buy it, but don't expect this one for free because the stones can run between 5-10K each.

Potent is for weapons and Fortified is for armor - you do not need to worry about researching the armor Nirn early - just Divines.

Get your Alchemy to 50 ASAP and save 3 skill points for Medicinal Use, which increases the time by 30%. Basically put, your spell/power potions will be up 100% once this skill tree is unlocked. Even at low levels, the spell/power potions make a big help regardless what character you play!

DO. NOT. ASK. FOR. GEAR. BEFORE. CP160!!!!!!! It's a waste of your resources. This game will level you easily without having to gear up. Save those resources until then! DO NOT GOLD OUT ANY OUTFIT UNTIL YOU ARE CP300+! Again, a complete waste of resources. Blue or Purple is all you will need.

Focus on your character build and focus only on the skills related to that build! In other words: don't try to level up every skill at first, level what you need, then everything else later. There will be plenty of time to level up all your skills. :)

Food is your friend: blue for health + stam or mag or purple for all 3. The faster you level provisioning, the faster you can use purple recipes. Look out for the daily reward chickens as these are the same as a purple recipe food (you can ignore the drinks).

ESO+. I know, I know, it's a sub, but unless you want to create additional characters, log out and in trading stuff around, ESO+ gives you the craft bag which hold unlimited supplies such as ingredients, materials, and trait stones. You CANNOT carry it all at early level, so for at least a month, sign up for ESO+ because Lydia isn't here to carry your burdens.

Just a few tips to get you started to make your "end game" more enjoyable.

Welcome back and enjoy the game!

thanks for the replies. I've been playing mmos and a wide range of them since 2004 and typically ignore elitists. I am not the type of player to force my play style on someone. I'm happy to leave groups if they do not agree with how I play. That was a big issue in ff14, I was not allowed to leave parties. I was told to play their way or else but they refused to remove me and bullied me into complying with them. (this is even in non endgame stuff)

Already an ESO+ member as well, I enjoy supporting the MMO I play as I've largely only played sub games. As well as The elder scrolls is my second fav franchise after Legend of zelda, so ya im going to support it. Heck when im not on ESO, I'm on Morrowind as i got my xbox originally to play it. (Also made a warden class on it and building an ice warden)

And yes I plan on leveling my crafting, and i had stuff from my previous characters, so i am starting on that. I enjoy eso crafting system, and noticed they improved it with bulk crafting. (yay)

Me and my bf are part of the same alliance, We are both Aldmeri dominion. We love Razum-dar, plus I wanted to play khajiit, and we did not have any race/any alliance. I'm a Khajiit warden, he is a High elf necromancer.

Thanks for the tips. I appreciate the warm welcoming.
