Are Nords only good for tanking?

All I hear is that Nords are only good for tanks. What about stamina DPS?

Any race is good for everything depending on the player, it only really takes notice when you get to far end pvp or pve.

Obviously if you have a certain class in mind then go with what helps that.

If you're looking to min-max in regards to a certain playstyle then there certainly are arguements to make for specific races/a specific race.
However, within the stamina framework Nords are definitively a good choice due to increased Stamina pool and Ultimate generation.

They have weird, half moon shaped eyes (no idea why?), so it's pretty difficult, I think.

I main a nord stamsorc for pve(for the last 2 1/2 years). You'll take a hefty dps cut vs going orc and definitely won't be touching top of leaderboards, but you can still attain adequate dps for all veteran content(bar vet hardmode trials, unless you and team are okay with partially being carried).

All of my characters are nords; my main pve dk tank and pve stamsorc dps. All of my pvp characters etc.
Basically they are really good for stamina builds as you would expect, but you can make any kind of build with any race so it doesn't matter that much. I've switched my dk tank nord to a mag dk dps just to try it. It works but I didn't like pewpew flame staff, I need me some big bonk to crush stuff.
It's really a good class for PvP necro, because of max hp, ulti regen and resistance buffs from race which also comes with necro passives.
Basically any stam character in PvP is good with nord, I've got a stamsorc nord and that extra hp is really good.
Also I have a PvP nightblade bomber, also a nord.
It just works.

Their racial perks do work well for tanks. They could be used for other roles but probably works best with tank that said they seem to be considered really good at tank role with current racial perks.

In PVP, they are a very good choice for stamina builds - I guess mostly because you can run in Medium armor and still have high resistances, and because you can make a few adjustments to attribute points and run a food like Lava Foot Soup and have high recovery too.

A for PVE, I can't really recommend it. I run my main (a Nord Templar) as a Stamplar, wearing Deadly, Warmachine/Grundwulf or Relequen/Selene depending on the occasion. For 4 man content, the former setup is king - for trials, the second is the natural choice.
I play with a few groups of people, and some of them are pretty "endgame focused" (vet/hm trials/DLC dungeons), never once have I been questioned, never once have anyone suggested I should be a runner (typically, the worst DD's are asked to do this, according to my experience), never once have anyone been taken into group before me (like "Oh sorry, we forgot! Next time, promise!"). I am treated as any other decent DD, despite being Nord.

He has 26k resistances ("in the rune", which is use for mitigation/recovery), recovery about the same as anyone else; my DPS is obviously better than a less experienced player on a "better build".
I can tell myself that the damage is somewhat lower than on my Orc Stamcro, or even my Dunmer Stamblade (and absolutely worse than my Dunmer Magblade), but there's no hiding it - if people are gonna die, and if we are going through the worst stuff in the game, this is the guy I'm going with. A DD with maximum "DD time", is the best one for me at least. I can take ridiculous abuse with him, and I can ignore some mechanics and keep delivering pain, when others can't. It works best for me at least.

you could use their health buff to eat pure stam food like lava foot. That helps out tons with recovery. Then the extra ultimate gain would work well with nightblades and necromancers. It would be way better than choosing something like high elf or breton.

That's what I do on my Stamplar, exactly. Have high ulti generation And I sort of spam Empowering Sweep for Major Slayer and (of course) general damage boost, sometimes I save ulti for Flawless Dawnbreaker for the extra weapon damage, typically at the "execute phase". The Major Slayer thing from Warmachine is excellent in 4 man content, when there are few or no synergies to use for those wearing Lokkestiiz for example - and that uptime is way better on a Nord with cheapo' ultimate.

Nords are great for stamina pvp.
The defenses and ult regen are massive advantages.

Yes. Nords are one of the best races for StaminaDK which is a really good choice for PvP.

In terms of the original MMO trinity (DPS, Heals, Tank), Nords are best suited for tanking. Can they be a stamina DPS? Sure, but a race like Orc will be able to out DPS you assuming you have equivalent skill. When it comes to DPS, it really just comes down to math at that point. Race matters more to a PVE DPS than any other type of playstyle.

They are also perfectly suited for PVP. In PVP, it is much easier to play to the strengths and weaknesses of your chosen race.

They're one of the best races for PvP, but you can definitely make them work for PvE dps, they'll just be slightly lower than the optimal dps race. I have a friend that plays a nord magden in both PvP and high end PvE and he's able to do fine.

Nord stam sorc is basically double hurricane buffs and unlimited dawnbreakers just gotta cover the stam regen lack with either camoran or lava foot saltrice.

The difference between races is far smaller between races for tanks and healers than it is for damage dealers and even those only really matter at competitive endgame levels.

In terms of tiers, here are the best races for tanking:

• S : Nord, Imperial
• A : Argonian
• B : Orc, Khajiit, Redguard, Breton
• C : Altmer, Dunmer
• D : Bosmer

Nord and Imperial both have more ultimate uses per minute than the rest, which is what is most important at endgame levels. While Nord have more resistances than Imperials, Imperials have lower block and skill costs (including ultimates) with great sustain for both magicka and stamina.

Argonians are good, but not as good as Nords and Imperials. Their sustain is not bad, but not as good as Imperial's but they don't have. Having more magicka than stamina from their racials forces Argonians to invest into stamina to benefit from synergies, which usually ends up in a lower health pool that their 1k bonus health can't bridge.

Orc, Khajiit, Redguard and Breton can all offer something of value to tanks. Orcs allow them to deal some more damage, Khajiit offer tri-stats with some recovery, Redguards offer huge stamina sustain even when blocking, Bretons offer the greatest magicka sustain and spell resistance making up for the drawback of having more magicka than stamina without investment.

Altmer are like Orcs except with the drawback of needing to invest more into stamina. Dunmer offer more max stats for both magicka and stamina, which is helpful but not as important as sustain is. The fire resistance rarely makes a difference.

Bosmer are the weakest because their core strength (sustain) is negated completely when blocking as stamina recovery turns to zero. They only have 2k stamina to offer as poison resistance can be neglected and hunter's eye is useless.

Just remembered another problem with them.

They have no depth to their lips (in profile), at all, however full you make their lips from the front:



...and their upper lip always looks far fuller than their lower lip (or does when I make them, anyway):



I assume they're supposed to be modelled after real life Scandinavians(?), but real life Scandinavians don't seem to have any of these issues, as far as I have noticed.
