Would you like to see NPCs added for housing? (EDIT: House Guests announced!)

No. I have friends come to my home and that is enough.

...Those kind of houses aren't run by one single person.

I have a decent sized estate and find it far from lifeless. That's because I have set it up to receive guests... other players, not NPCs.

I turned the top floor of the barn into a guest house, with room for 2 overnight guests. I set up a firepit outside, with a large table covered with food and a keg of ale. And I have 2 outdoor sitting areas for relaxing with friends.

Inside the main house, I have 2 seating areas for good conversation, a dining room for enjoying a meal together, and a hookah lounge for complete relaxation.

And, yes, I manage the upkeep all on my own.

Well good for you, but other players can't really stay overnight, as they can't log-out their chars, while they are lying in bed in your guest house and then log them back on, the next day, to find them still there.

...and you can't log back on and find them still there, unless they have travelled back to your guest house just before you logged back on yourself.

Maybe they should be able to do that and in fact, maybe there could be some sort of incentive to do that(?), but that would be a separate request.

The NPCs will enable people to feel like there is always someone living, working and/or staying in a house (or business!).

After all, some people have the Princely Dawnlit Palace.

Somewhere like that really does feel empty without several people living in, working in and/or visiting it.

Then we have villages, which feel totally deserted without people in them.

I agree that a less huge house, especially if you have the merchant and banker in it, doesn't necessarily need NPCs wandering around it, but most people feel the really big ones do.

Are you sure someone can't log off in my guest house and still be there when they log back on? Have you tested this? I haven't tested yet but I will today.

Besides, even if they can't, I can pretend they did, just like you pretend your NPCs are real people.

The ridiculous limit of Special Collections is why I refuse to give ZOS another cent for housing. I don't give a stuff about new "characters", I want my pets and my mounts on display at my home.

No, only the owner can log off in a house (or DC) and then find themselves still in the same version of that house, when they log back on again.

If someone, who isn't the owner, logs off in a house, they will log back on in their own version of the house, if they also own the house.

Or, if they don't own the same house, they will find themselves back where they were when they ported to it.

I don't really pretend my NPCs are real people, as such, personally - it's more like they're part of the virtual art installations that are our houses.

They do the job of representing real people, visually.

I can choose to immerse further into it, on a more RP kind of level, for fun, but most of the time that is how I'm seeing them.

Well, good for you then. But I and others do, and we shouldn't suffer for that. You can simply choose not to place anything if you don't want to.

I have people in my houses too, since they are great spots for roleplaying. But they aren't in my house constantly, nor do they always do what I want. I want my pets to move around and not to be glued to one spot, and I want some guards to guard my mansion while people visit. Same as I want merchants and fences people can interact with or at least pretend to do so with in my outlaw refuges. They are background npcs/extras to liven up the place.

You do you, and let others do theirs.

This thread asked people to vote if they want NPCs in their houses. I voted "no" and gave my reasons why. I don't know how that is making you, and others, "suffer". It's only my opinion. I'm not the one making the decision.

This one wishes that all his characters that are not logged in could wander his house until "called upon".

    From the PTS Patch Notes:

    'Houseguests
Of course, pets, mounts, and assistants aren’t the only characters you might see walking around your friends’ homes! Houseguests are a new type of collectible character, which you can add to your home in the same way that you can add other collectibles. Each houseguest is unique and has a distinct appearance, perfect for adding a little bit of life to your home.
    • Several of these are currently available on the Crown Store for testing, with more to come in the future. These count towards the Special Collectible furnishing limit.'

:frowning: BOO!!! :disappointed: Even bigger BOO so the devs in the back can hear it too: BOOOOOOOO!

Ikr!!! :frowning: Well, at least we know what literally everybody's feedback will be on the PTS forums.

We'll ask them to consider making them part of the Collectible limit, rather than the Special Collectible limit, to alleviate the restrictive issue that we already have with the low Special Collectible limit... And they'll reply something about 'performance' and everyone will be disappointed. Ah well. It was a beautiful dream.

I know they just came out, but has anyone seen/posted any images or videos of the ones currently in the PTS Crown store? I'm curious about their appearance/race, etc.

So far a video there shows a tavern serving lady and a Khajiit scholar.
These are the current Houseguests available for testing on the PTS.
They all come from the Crown Store, go into your Collections, and count as Special Collectibles.

The new Character pathing feature works with them too (like pets, mounts and assistants) so that's quite good.

*Joins in on the loud booing*

    Boooo!

They better increase the special collectibles if they are going to count towards that. Those furnishings slots are so few in the smaller and medium sized houses.
