About blue... I have no idea, maybe Tainted Turquoise or Indoril Blue eventually Blackreach blue. About blacks: Legate is a bit darker but it also has metallic shine on some gear parts, while coldharbour is more mat. Difference in most of the cases is hard to notice.
Bedlam Purple is definitely one of my most used dyes. It's a gorgeous purple, rich in color, matte, and works as a pseudo-black on some pieces.
Voidstone Violet is a nice, similar blue, I believe it's more shiny, bit plays with some more undertones.

For Bedlam, I understand you just need to have completed Cloudrest, is that correct? I'm going to have to start reaching out to folks about getting some trials done.
The requirements for Voidstone are a little less clear for me. There's a lot of conflicting information online. Do you remember what you did to unlock it? I'm getting the impression it's no death (HM?) runs on an unclear number of dungeons.

Hey! Bedlam Purple is for finishing Cloudrest on veteran. No HMs necessary.
Voidstone Violet (from my interpretation of the wording) is for clearing the HMs on base game dungeons, specifically the ones that have II in their title. No death is not required -- the confusion stems from the fact that No Death achievements are categorized as 'Survivor Challenges', while HM achievements are categorized as 'Death Challenges'.

When I got the achievement, you did need a no-death on CoH II for Voidstone Violet. Or at least it needs to be up to the portal before the last boss. To be honest, though, the penultimate boss is the toughest to no-death.

The penultimate is definitely a PUG killer, and yeah the No Death there is often bugged (awarded before final boss), though unfortunately not reliably.
The way I remembered it was that one of the achievements was simply mis-listed, but I just checked and you seem to be right, CoH2 No Death is thrown in there for whatever reason.

For sure! Although amusingly I ended up getting it with a pug. Two of us needed that last achievement for VV, too. That was the only time I got it (I’m so used to my main that my other toons are pretty much relegated to daily crafting writs); I didn’t know whether it always popped before the last boss or not.
The inconsistency in this game (especially in terms of requirements and achieving them) really does drive me nuts sometimes...
I love the dye, though, especially on metal.
Definitely worth the trouble. Complements the Maw skin well.
As for OP’s other question: I take the Legate black over Coldharbour Ash for almost all materials. It’s noticeably deeper, which also allows for better contrasts. Besides, Legate takes more persistence than skill, which works out well for me.
