PvP in ESO, what killed you?

This game has a quick combat mode, without CD and short cast times. Is like a frenzy without stop.

Visually in pvp is hard to see from where damage comes and then suddenly your hp bar goes down in 0,5 seconds.

Then you have to watch the board to see wtf killed you.

Is this a tactical game? No really, is about to know how to manage resources, being good in moving and using walls to hide, but that's it, then the rest is rush over your enemy.
This game requires skill? Yes, but to be quick with the buttons and being good with your fingers. Not too much about thinking.

To be good in pvp is more a feeling, when you do pvp a lot then you feel the things happen before they really happened, then you know when to roll, heal or back off without need to have a visual feedback.

Sad, but that is pvp in ESO, no what you see, but what you don't see. Otherwise you are a dead man walking.

So what killed you? I'm pretty sure that 80% of the people that does pvp don't know what killed them. All have to take a look to the recap to see what was it.

I think this kind of pvp Is bad for new players that try pvp. I think it makes them quit before really try. I know because it happened to me, I went through the same, then I got good gear, make everything in gold, tune my character to the maximum and then anyways play and play and have a *** bad time in the beginning, till I finally start to get it. In the end I just play by enertia, like the *** Neo in matrix, you just see the code and you don't need any visual feedback.

If you feel like you are dying a lot in PvP play a Healer.

    Sanctuary / Gossamer / Hiti / Jorvulds / Transmutation / OLO / Spell Power Cure / HallowFang

Pair any of those sets together (im sure I missed some) and put on Earthgore for your monster set.

Make sure you are running Radiating Regen (because its working as intended and you can stack it with other mutgans 100 times) and BLAM you are now a PvP Healer, and any PvP guild will suck you up and make you a family member.

Once you have done this for awhile you will get used to how the game works, and when to recognizing damage incoming. Then test the water with damage characters. Its not fun at the start of this game. Its pretty rough, but with a good guild, it makes the start a lot smoother

ESO combat does have a CD. All skills are on a CD of ~1 second. There is nothing in the game that can overwrite that since it is controlled by the server. Basic attacks are not on a CD but they have a different factor controlling what they do, how long we hold the button down before firing off the basic attack.

Lag in Cyrodiil is problematic but that is a different issue than the pace of combat.

Also, the best PvP players I have seen are very quick to react to action around them even when it is not coming directly from their target. Speed of reacting with defensive actions is key to survival in ESO PvP. Again, when lag is a problem like we see in Cyrodiil everything becomes a problem and that would be the case with any combat system.

I'm only a noob in PvP, but what usually kills me is basically being too slow to react/heal/dodge, too slow in my attacks, and also being more on the defensive side, rather than offensive.

Absolutely spot on. It's how I started. I'm not in a guild yet but I now know what will get me killed and what is a calculated risk worth taking. I am a ram/seige/storm the breach healer :D But I'm learning. You definitely have time to at least learn what's killing you if you can stay alive a little longer. What has changed for me is I am learning to adapt my builds and skills to suit my playstyle. It becomes easier when you begin to actually understand how your build works. In the beginning i was just going with the recommended builds and still dying. Panic also kills you. The deer-in-the-headlights reaction i always used to have on being focused, is beginning to fade as I gain experience.

The game is not designed to deal with the kind of latency that happens in a large % of PVP encounters.

Snipe? You'll get hit 2 or 3 times before any indication happens. There's a reason people button mash so much in PVP, because the more attacks you can get in before the other player has time to react, the more damage you do to that player.

Sure, there's the troll heal picks and the gold-everything with potions/poison who constantly abuses LOS and his resources to get every ounce of advantage that probably deserves to win against one or two people but definitely not 10 like he currently is.

But anyway if PVP were fair I doubt as many people would play it. People like to win.

What's the point of this exercise? The servers will still suck as horribly as they always have in recent years. I tried ESO on my laptop and it was installed on the SDD. The performance was just as horrible as it had always been. :( The ZOS experts simply have no clue how to improve performance, so the only possible performance inmprovement is that we all leave so performance will be wonderful for the people who join after our demise.

These days, my number one cause of death is cold fire siege. One of the problems with lag is that you can get hit a few times and it doesnt register for a few seconds, then hits you all at once. After that it is typically multiple prox dets/Vicious death (in other words, I got run over by a zerg). Third place is probably a really well executed gank from a stamblade.

I also play a very glassy build. If my defenses are completely down (no shields, blocking, or resist buffs), cold fire siege can one shot me. I saw a 29k hit yesterday. The trade off, I can also deal a kill with a 3-4 skill combo.

Also, here is the thing about resources. In super high lag like Midyear Mayhem, I dont even plan for resource management. Your regen is still going, but you are reallistically only firing a skill every 3-4 global cooldowns. It's funny because every now and then, the lag just seems to disappear for a minute and your skills start working. When that happens, my sustain goes to crap. haha

The other night I got killed by a pair of 12k Snipes into a 10k Mage's Wrath on a build with 25k resistances in non-CP.

It was all de-synch'd so I went from full health to dead instantly but it caught my attention due to the raw damage and the mixed damage types. I figured it must have either been a vampire hybrid and/or a Thrassian and Pelinal's user.

I've been in the process of making a hybrid using 2H on the main bar to double up on executes but I do now wonder about maybe using a Bow for some future hybrid build.

It's never fun to get ganked but I do appreciate this patch's progress in making hybrid builds more viable than ever before.

The problem with that response is that it suggests that in a perfect environment, you would never die. Those same things are happening to the other guy that killed you as well. Dont get me wrong, the game is a mess, but there are other factors causing you to die as well (and by you, I mean anyone playing in PVP). Like anything else, lag can be adapted to to some degree.

    "quick combat"

yeah tell that to my dizzying swing. I've pressed the button a week ago still waiting for it to land.

I like theorycrafting some sets around, and at the end %90 of the time they don't work at all and i got killed like a cannon fodder. Sometimes they work really good, but if it's a 2h build dizzying swing just doesn't work during prime time.
Now my latest build has 4k weapon dmg, 7k penetrations, 32k resists and 2k stam recovery when buffe in NoCP. But still getting 8k shards, 6k surprise attacks even though i have 2.3k crit resist as well. ah also %10 dmg mitigation from my ghost pal.
It works when dizzy works, but i still have no idea why i am getting so high damage. My stamsorc has 23k resists and no dmg mitigation but gets hit for the same amount, at least i can streak away and get some free time to heal myself on that one. But again, even on stamsorc sometimes i can't compete with some guy who is running wild hunt ring and they run me down like a rabid dog :D
Gotta keep working on getting used to these builds and figure out why i'm getting hit for so high damage...

When I was brand new to PVP, what made the biggest difference was wearing Impen Plague Doctor on my MagDK Healer.

See, it took having 40k health to help me last long enough in a fight to figure out what was killing me.

Now that I have a lot more experience, I feel about as survivable in my light armor. But getting tanky in the beginning was definitely the key to me living long enough to identify my mistakes so I could learn from experience!

    What killed me?

    -Better player
-Failure to observe on my part
-A bad movement on my part
-Getting a bit too bold on my part
-Simple failure to hit the correct button on my part

When I die, I don't blame the enemy, I blame myself. And then look into how I can improve.
