Bar Swapping...has something changed?

PC/NA. Since Greymoor landed I find myself more and more complaining that bar swapping fails to execute. Doesn't matter what content I'm doing. I can be in a raid or banging on a dummy. I'll be running through my rotation only to find I'm on the wrong bar. Never experienced this until recently and it's annoying as hell at times.

My ping has not changed (70-100 ms), so I'm curious if there is something ZOS might have changed and others are experiencing also or if it might be something specific to my system.

I'm on console so bar swapping has always been dog *** especially in PvP. But I have noticed it is going a little smoother with the Midyear Mayhem update.

Have you tried to change R3 for D-pad left? Makes bar swapping way easier.

Thanks for bringing this up. I've been noticing this too, but thought that either I was clicking the wrong button/ forgetting to do so, or that my mouse was starting to fail.

yesterday, while doing a pledge, it became very clear to me that it wasn't a matter of me clicking the wrong button or forgetting to swap.

It has always felt "mushy" when combat is intense, but lately I have been seeing something else. Normally you just hit swap again and it will go through after a delay. Yesterday, I hit swap, then hit swap again, then MASHED swap and held it down just in case my button was broken or something.

Then I actually stopped what I was doing for literally 5+ seconds, making sure I wasn't stunned in any way, and stood there mashing swap over and over saying "OK what the hell" at my screen tapping my foot. It finally swapped over on its own.

During this time lag was normal, ping was normal, everything else was working. I almost suspected someone used cheat engine in some new and exciting way to send the server false information about another target they were in combat with having been stunned when they weren't, causing the server to ignore my commands.

I would LIKE to imagine server side checks existed to prevent this sort of thing, but it literally only happened in combat with those specific 5 people who were all dizzy swing spamming gankers.

    Suspicious...

Six skills walk into a bar, and say "Hey, we're back!". The barkeep says "Sorry, this is Front, you're out of sync".

(Yes, I will see myself out.)

I've had this happen too, it's so much worse than it was even a week or so ago! It's even happening outside of big groups now. I though my mouse button died, bar swap just seemed to completely quit working while I was hitting the target dummy. Did a /reoadui and it worked for a bit, but it's been bad since.

Can literally be standing there doing nothing else just hitting bar swap and nothing at all happens....

To put it bluntly, game performance got even worse in Greymoor. This prompted ZOS to add this change into Greymoor’s patch notes:
“In an effort to address many input delays, the cooldown for activating an ability after Weapon Swapping has been reduced from 500ms to 250ms to better match the animation.”

There is a reason it has always been at 500ms :unamused:

The past few patches prior to Greymoor unfortunately began featuring some really bad skill delays on barswap due to degrading game performance. The change to 250ms alleviates some of these issues but also brings with it new bugs which will never be fixed.... barswap can sometimes work a bit slower than usual or outright fail to work. Also animations+sound can fully play out even though you swapped too fast to cast certain skills. Those are at least the issues I’ve noticed.

I think barswapping feels better than it did in Harrowstorm. That’s not really saying much though bc it was totally horrible in Harrowstorm lol. I just really don’t like bandaid fixes because the issues weren’t actually addressed. 99% of this game’s performance issues have been handled with bandaid fixes and obviously it has gone really poorly.
