why mother sorrow over julianos staff?

Assuming you run 5 julianos 5 mother sorrrow and a 2 piece " monster " set (it s certainly not the best but it is a decent start). Then why would it be better to have a mother sorrow as a staff, in both case you get the two 5 pieces bonus and a staff is staff so i don t see why mother sorrow would have better stats. I m asking cause i m fed up farming the deshaan public dungeon, and i not bold enough to try the world bosses solo. I m a newplayer and just did my first dolmen solo but world bosses are way harder (l may give them a try).

The Shadow stone, Major and minor Force Crit damage buffs are very important for dps in dungeons and trials.

Later you would swap out Julianos for a another set, then you could keep your Mother's Sorrow staff.

That said, as long as you run Julianos + Mother's Sorrow it won't really matter, which one is on your front bar. Also you could get a lightning staff of a Mother's Sorrow "for free" from questing.

Because crit chance is always applied for all your active abilities, while spell damage is "updated" only for some (aoe dots with ticks 1 per second) and not updated for single target dots.
Easiest way just buy inferno staff with bad trait and transmute it.

I got it, so basically people prefer to upgrade a sorrow cause they will give up the julianos set ;-). Since i have lot of mastic i will rank my julianos ...

It only matters what front bar staff you run if you're running a maelstrom staff.

I am a High Elf magicka Templar PvE player. I have all 64 points into magicka. I run Zaan's monster set in heavy pieces and False God's Devotion. All armor is gold and in divines trait with magicka glyphs. If I use Mother's Sorrow flame/lightning (back bar) weapons and jewelry all in gold. Flame is precise, lightning is infused and all jewelry is arcane with spell damage glyphs. These are non-buffed numbers.
My max magicka = 32,273 - critical % = 73.7% - spell damage = 2244.
If I remove Mother's Sorrow for the new craftable Spell Parasite (all traits and glyphs are the same as MS), flame/lightning staff is gold and jewelry is all blue.
My max Magicka = 31,998 (-275) - critical % = 61.0% (-12.7%) - spell damage = 2368 (+124).
I am aware that the gap between max magicka and critical % will close some once I get the jewelry to gold and the spell damage will become better. Isn't Spell Parasite a bit better then Mother's Sorrow?

There‘s zero difference when you double bar both sets. If you swap out your backbar for a VMA weapon for example you will lose the 4th and 5th set bonus on your backbar. But Mother‘s Sorrow makes a good endgame set whereas Law of Julianos will be replaced by a trial set or something similar. That‘s why people tend to gold out only Mother‘s Sorrow and the weapon is always the best slot to gold out because it impacts your damage the most by far.

Critical strike chance is the best value for PvE dps because there are so many critical damage modifiers. There‘s the champion point „Elfborn“, the mundus stone „Shadow“ and the buffs minor and major force which can easily boost your critdamage from +50% to +130% of the base damage.

That‘s why Mother‘s Sorrow is still used in endgame PvE builds. When you lack sustain False God Devotion is probably the best choice in the game. Spell Parasite is only mediocre.

single target dots do update based on your stats. Place a dot and have a set that procs your spell damage, and the dot will hit higher without recasting it.
