Physical/magic resistance affect incoming critical damage?

If I understand correctly, base critical damage is 50% of the damage you're doing, so if you hit for 100 and crit, you'll do an additional 50 crit damage. Does this mean that you can mitigate incoming crit damage indirectly by having higher resistance? For instance, if that hit of 100 that crit was physical damage and you have 10% reduction in physical damage, does that mean the enemy hit you for 90 dmg and so their crit damage is now 45 totaling up to 135, or does that mean the enemy hit you for 100 dmg and so their crit damage is 50 still but then the base damage was reduced 10% down to 90 totaling up to 140?

    Yes, the extra damage from critical hits is affected by resistance, so
    For instance, if that hit of 100 that crit was physical damage and you have 10% reduction in physical damage, does that mean the enemy hit you for 90 dmg and so their crit damage is now 45 totaling up to 135
    is correct.
    You could also view it as they hit for 100 and crit it would be 150 damage, which is then reduced by your 10% mitigation down to 135.

    Note there is also the separate stat for critical resistance which directly reduces the critical damage ie: if you have crit resistance of 10% this means if someone hits you with a crit and there crit damage bonus is 50% the bonus gets reduced to 40%.
    So if the hit was for 100 and they crit and you have 0 resistance and 10% crit resistance you now take 100*(1+ (0.5-0.1)) = 140.
    Or if you had 10% reduction from resistance and 10% crit resistance then it would be 100*(1+(0.5-0.1))(1-0.1) = 126.

    Obviously there are a lot of other factors as well, and if you are interested I would recommend checking out this post by @Masel

    Great, thank you!

    I was trying to figure out how valuable using CP to mitigate regular damage is compared to mitigating just critical damage. This makes it sound like a balance is good.

    If Balorgh and Stuhn become popular sets it‘s probably more effective to invest into damage mitigation champion points instead of resistances. Health and health recovery will likely become more important too. People are hitting +25k penetration* at this point and that almost nullifies all resistances.

    * 11.5k (Balorgh) + 5.3k (Stuhn) + 3.4k (Spinner) + 5.3k (Ele drain)
