Theorycrafting for Thrassian Stranglers

Does anyone have any ideas for a build that uses both a 2 PC Monster Set AND the Mythic gloves? I see people using 1pc monster sets as a sacrifice so they can use the stranglers..but I personally think it's possible to pull off Stranglers with a 2PC monster set.

A guildy and I are both using identical characters. Both vamp Magblades using B4B as a spammable.

My setup: 2PC Zaan's, 5 PC Perfected False Gods, 4 PC Mother's Sorrow, and a Maelstrom Staff. Effectively the same as Alcast's build..except by dropping the 5pc bonus for Mother's Sorrow, just about 2k crit rating..I gain a max of 3k spell damage. Does 3k Spell Damage seem like a fair trade in order to give up 2k spell crit rating? I have 70% chance to crit on my main bar with Stranglers Equipped.

My guildy: Pretty much identical except he's dropping the 5PC bonus from Perfected False Gods instead of Mother's Sorrow. He trades 129 Spell Damage, 1096 Maximum Magicka, Reduction of the cost of your Magicka Abilities by 8%, and "When an enemy you recently damaged dies, you restore 2150 Magicka and gain Major Expedition for 8 seconds, increasing your Movement Speed by 30%" for that extra 3k spell dmg.

What are your build ideas, and do you think the 5 PC Perfected False Gods bonus is worth more or less than the 2k spell crit rating from Mothers Sorrow?

My goal is to maintain the Zaan's set. I personally think Zaan's is just too OP with that 3k extra spell dmg to give up.

Mother sorrow 5 piece bonus will always out perform false god 5 piece bonus, especially if you're using the shadow mundus stone.

Thats strange. I would think that too outright if my parses didn't indicate differently.

Crit really makes that difference, even when crit rating is already at 70%?

I agree, 5 Sorrow and 4 FGD is the best combination, with the FGD Inferno front bar.

For situations where you really need the sustain from False Gods (like vMA), I’d recommend using 4pc NMA. For solo content the line of Spell Pen outperforms the Spell Crit, and the Spell Damage outperforms the Max Magicka. You can also run a heavy chest instead of helm or shoulder for a little more armor to counter the increased damage taken from Thrassian.

If you’re in a group with full debuffs, and still need the sustain from FGD, then you can do 5-5-1-1 as you mentioned (usually requires using 6-0-1 armor weights), or you can keep the monster helm 2pc and run a 4pc Mad Tinkerer or Caluurions (slightly better than 4pc Sorrow) to keep 5 FGD.

All of these options are close enough that you won’t notice much difference, just trading off a little sustain or damage.

The combination I haven’t been able to figure out, is running:

    - 5pc FGD
    - 2pc Monster Helm/Shoulders
    - 1pc Thrassian
    - 3pc Wrath of the Imperium
    - 1pc something?

As far as I can tell, there’s no set that can be used to fill the 12th item slot. The only 1pc sets are head or shoulder slots, which are already occupied. Using 2 mythics is not possible. Seems like there’s no way to fill this slot that performs any better than a non-set item, which brings the potential of the build down and makes it inferior to all the options above (especially the 5 MS + 4 FGD). If anyone has an idea for this, let me know.

It should be possible of you dont use 2 x5 sets, i like to use 2x 3 piece sets on my weapon bars

It probably comes down to how good your sustain is already. With high sustain, the 5th piece of FGD doesn't matter a whole lot. So it might be different for different stages of vampirism for example. Or if you use the health cost vampire spammable FGD doesn't really matter either.

    So something like this?
    - 5 Sorrow
    - 3 False Gods
    - 3 Wrath of the Imperium
    - Thrassian Stranglers

That wouldn't leave room for a monster set, but it's an interesting idea. The main downside is that this only works with 7 light armor, no way to do 5-1-1 or even 6-0-1. This setup would reach 84.3% crit (with precise, no Thief) with Minor Slayer, but no sustain benefits from FGD.

However, I think a similar setup like this outperforms it:
    - 5 Sorrow
    - 4 False Gods
    - 1 Thrassian Stranglers
    - 1 Slimecraw
    - 1 Grundwulf

This one reaches 83.6% crit (with precise, no Thief), but with no restrictions on direct or ranged damage (like Imperium has), and it allows use of 5-1-1 or 6-0-1 since it uses 2 monster set pieces on head and shoulders.

In my testing, I've gotten the best results with Zaan or Maw of the Infernal instead of the mixed crit helm and shoulders.

Yes i was thinking something like that, although i cant say much for pve setups since i only pvp, i will share my build as an example:

    2x Bloodspawn
    5x Fury
1x Malacaths Band of Brutality ring
3x Agility or asylum(1 ring and 2H maul) frontbar
3x Blessing of Potentates (1 necklace, sword and Shield/resto staff) backbar for cheaper ultimate for oh *** moments

Like others have already said, you could simply lose the 5th bonus of PFG. However, if you wanted to keep the 5th bonus of both sets, plus the monster set, then the only way I could see it working would be if you sacrificed the vMA staff for a set staff. If said set had a proc 5th piece bonus, then you could proc it on your back-bar, and retain the other set's 5th piece bonus on the front bar. You'd have to test if removing the vMA staff would be worth it damage-wise, but this way you could keep the 5th bonus of both sets.

Not really theory crafted, but I’ve been getting on well with 1pc Slimecraw, Thrassians and full MS and either Necropotence (petsorc) or False God (other magDPS). Boosted my parses between 8k to 12k on dummy and has allowed me to melt no -DLC pledges. Was also really useful for good trial group doing Craglorn plunder runs.

Part of me also considering trying an ulti-building build. If I can pop off an ulti regularly, that spell damage + a spell damage based ulti could be very spicy indeed.

I was also opting to drop the Mother’s Sorrow bonus instead of False God’s, need that cost reduction and sustain on my vampire. But currently playing with a gimped version of Easy Sorc, False God’s + Undaunted Infiltrator + Maelstrom, so now its either give up False God or dont use them. Still, 9k spell damage in group dungeons is fun.
