Regarding the Lilmothiit.

I know this beast race died out a few decades before the start of ESO, but it bummed me out that in Murkmire, the city named after them had no references to them or their culture. I know - they were dead at that point and may have been exiled out of the city decades before the flu even hit, but it still didn't feel right. So when they announced the antiquities system and we got a chance to play Indiana Jones, I thought, for sure, they'd finally let us dig up some Lilmothiit lore in Murkmire. But, no, we don't get a single bit of information about them and probably never will.

Why? There aren't many races in Elder Scrolls lore, let alone beast races, so why did they skip two opportune times to actually have them featured in the game? Surely they could have just let us unearth a Lilmothiit treasure or something and let us get some info on them through the codex entries.

Keep in mind that there is very little "set in stone" lore for the Elder Scrolls. The dragons were "dead and gone" or "disappeared"... until they weren't. The dwemer had ALL disappeared.... until we found one still alive in a dungeon.

There really is no reason why we shouldn't be able to see some Lilmothiit in game, or even play as them at some point in the future.

The vast majority (in fact I would say ALL) "lore" in the game is written IN UNIVERSE, by NPC scholars, historians, and researchers. Specifically SO there is plenty of wiggle room for things like this.

Now, does that mean it is likely? Of course not.

But we can always hope. The lilmothiit are one of my favorite races alongside the khajiit, and I've always hoped to be able to play as one eventually, without relying on mods like in Skyrim.

I feel like the antiquities system was the perfect opportunity for them to do something, though. It's about digging up artifacts from the past, and since the Lilmothiit lived in Lilmoth, one would assume you'd find some of their relics in the zone. Even if it was just a treasure, as I've said, it would have been a nice inclusion. They wouldn't have had to actually design what the Lilmothiit looked like and could have just had the antiquarians talk about the race in the codex results for some statuette you dug up.

Oh I agree! It would have been (and still is! *HINT HINT ZOS DEVS*) an opportunity to give some relics of the Lilmothiit culture, society, knicknacks and who knows what else? Perhaps we might see some in the future, as ZOS has said that they plan to expand on the Antiquities in the future and add new ones as they can.

Yes, I was excited (at the time) that Murkmire might include something related to that, but no ..... They pretty much ignored it.
I was hoping there'd be an area that showed some Lilmothiit history, like a ruined village where they had lived or something, but nooooo ....
Then again, I was also hoping we'd get Nagas as a playable race, and was disappointed by that, too.
The Murkmire questline was good, though.

The Lilmothiit were written out of existence for convenience. There's already 10 Races to keep track of, the flu is a justified reason to not bother with another one.

One again false information, everything attributed to the fox race of Tamriel states “mostly” extinct. It is open ended at what exactly happened to them is unknown. For all we know they might be in a different plane or hidden away somewhere. We just don’t know. Or they might be completely extinct, but that’s not what the lore says. [snip]
