I have tried countless time to dig up a gold lead and completely uncovered it only to have it say "Excavation unsuccessful" . I'm on PS4.
Any hints or tricks to successfully dig it up?

    It's a known bug. What you want to do is dig where the sparkles are located rather than the item itself. You also want to dig in a diagonal pattern, as the gold mythic items are placed at an angle. The bug was fixed on PC, and should be fixed on console in a future patch.
