I had been playing ESO earlier but had to go out for an hour so quit the game and went out.
Came back and clicked the launcher, it dropped me right back to my computer login screen.

I get back in click the ESO launcher and hey presto it's now instead of seeing the play button, it's
giving me the option to install the game which i'm doing ( Again). So i'm wondering what the heck went wrong
and why am i having to re-install the game when i had been playing just fine an hour earlier.

So many DCs lately now this ? it's getting old fast. Anyone out there had this happen before ?

Oh i bought it through steam and thinking will it be better to kill that and buy the game direct from ZOS ?.

I tried bypassing the steam launcher again and using the eso64.exe but it tells me to log in through steam. :/

I use to open eso64.exe but after like 3 opens or 4 opens, ESO deletes ESO64. Locks the folder and forces me to relog into my computer to open it back up...then I must go to the launcher and let it redownload ESO64....

Have you checked your drive to see if the main game files are still there?
Maybe you just need to do a repair.

The only time I ever had a problem with Steam making me redownload the game again as if it had never been installed was when I shut down ESO through Task Manager, then shut down Steam through Task Manager, because the game had locked up (possibly due to problems that were going on with my hard drive that I wasn't aware of yet), and when I restarted Steam and tried to launch ESO again it acted like the game had never been installed. It turns out that when you quit a game you need to let Steam finish updating its files before you shut down Steam, because if you shut down Steam while it still shows a game as "Running" then it can corrupt its files so bad that it no longer knows where the game is on your system. There's supposed to be a way to point Steam to the game files again so you don't have to redownload again, but I couldn't get that to work when it hapoened to me. But shortly after that my hard drive crashed, so I ended up having to buy a new computer anyway.

So I got eso as a gift when it first launched. It was though ZoS. Hubby also got eso on pc (he's from Xbox originally) & got it on sale on steam. Big mistake! Wouldn't recommend steam, it's a launcher in launcher & really annoying to have to do everytime.

Glad mine is zos and not steam.

I didn't get the option to repair, as soon as i clicked the icon to launch the launcher it only gave me the option to install the game. Odd very odd. I didn't check the files.. my mistake , however the re-install didn't take very long and is working now.

    Thanks for the reply.

I got it through steam as it was on sale at the time. Thought it was a good thing, but not now, i'm thinking of replacing it with a ZOS copy instead.
