ESO team, Why have you locked gear behind fishing?

I have been standing in front of a fishing hole for countless hours looking for a lead.

I want you to understand that I have never fished in all the years i have played, and i absolutely HATE IT WITH EVERY OUNCE OF MY BEING!

Forcing people to participate in such a highly underdeveloped and unconscionably boring task, is a good way to lose subs.

I'm ready to uninstall after staring at this damned water for so long.

Please think about what you are doing when you plan your adventures....

Why do they lock gear behind any content?

Why do I have to do Maelstrom if I want Mealstrom weapons? Don't you know how maddening that stupid MC is?

...you'll live. With or without the gear. It's your choice.

Though if you bring some friends and chat on Discord while you are fishing, time goes by faster.

Not so many places you will get them fishing, but there is at these locations.

    1: Artaeum Fishing

    2: Clockwork city, foul fishing.

For a full list of locations and what type the leads are check out this link.

It seems Zos has placed leads throughout all sorts of activities in the game and fishing is an activity in the game.

This happens to be the single most dangerous piece of equipment in the game. I would run maelstrom for a month for it.

But fishing is a mini-game that does absolutely nothing for me.

As a Cyro player the locking of gear behind PVE content has ALWAYS been an issue, not one enough to complain about. Until now.

This level of PVE enforcement is not acceptable in someones view... MY VIEW.

And I have a very valid argument.

The great thing about Antiquities is that it has added value to all these other facets of the game. Players are getting spread across the map, congregating in these forgotten corners, working together to complete content they probably forgot about years ago. I'm not a big fan of fishing either, but I enjoy bumping into other players who are on the same hunt as me. There's a bit of solidarity there that I like.

Why did they put leads in dungeons?
Why did they put leads in Cyrodiil?
Why did they put leads in IC?
Why did they put leads in resource nodes?
Why did they put leads in daily quest rewards boxes?
Why did they put leads in trials?

Is there a single aspect of the game that leads drop from the someone hasn't created a complaint thread about yet?

    As is Maelstrom for me.

Each to his own. Kudos to ZOS for spreading an optional part of the game through all the different forms of content.

There is certainly a distinction between locking weapons behind a combat based arena, and locking gear designed for combat behind the horrible minigame that is fishing. I have the gloves. I absolutely hate fishing in this game.

These gloves are BIS for certain content, most notably, the arenas. When some of the best score pushers on the planet are saying, "nah, I'm good", when it comes to farming these items on the live server, it is at least a moderate issue.

For the record, it took me 6 eposides of Star Trek to fish both items required. Netflix and Fish is the best advice I have. I also wouldnt suggest doing it sober, because it really is awful.

I do applaud that they generally spread leads behind just about every type of content, but they could have done a better job about thinking about what leads go where. Fishing seems like a great place for anything RP related (furnishings, etc.), but I don't think they are the best place for combat gear.

    Completely ruining public dungeons.

I was on a level four trying to farm some skeletons while antiquity hunters pulled adds and leashed them to the point that i had to leave the dungeon because every trash add in the dungeon was running back and fourth glitchingly following there leashing agitators.

To assess that this impact of the content drop was completely well thought. is a clear judgment error

They need to raise the rng chance if they are going to leave leads in these types of things.

I do not accept public dungeons being rendered un-usable. I do not accept being force to fish for 5 hours and not receive my lead. I do not accept condoning group dungeons to be ran incomplete due to running to and farming the last boss leaving dungeon goers confused and without being able to complete their content.

Adjustments need to be made. I'm not condemning antiquities, it's a great system. But the lead acquisition needs some more thought.. clearly.

Then it sounds like you should.

Unfortunately the game can't be custom made for any individual's tastes. This is also a fact of life. As all the other leads complaint threads clearly show, someone is going to be unhappy no matter what content leads are tied to.

Slight difference, the main mythic lead in IC is for an item that is largely geared towards PVP.

The other issue with the fishing, at least in Artaeum, is that it is a forced Cluster you know what. Too many players, not enough holes.

That zone is the size of my backyard. There are basically two small shorelines that have been packed since the patch dropped. There are advantages to packing a place like IC. I dont think that applies to a small PVE zone like this. I am sure it will calm down, but picking a zone with a bit more area would have been a better choice IMO. Especially, considering a lot of people already grudgingly farmed the fishing in that zone for some of the recipes a while back.

    @LuxLunae

Leads are everywhere. It is hard to throw a rock in the Greymoor patch and not hit a lead.

There are also mythic items, which generally require you to seek out 5 separate and specific leads, the rewards of each can be combined to form an item that gives powerful 1-piece bonus.

The main source of rage is that one of those items, Thrassian Stranglers (very powerful for PVE DPS) has 2 of the 5 leads behind 2 separate fishing gates. They are fairly painful if RNG is not on your side. World Bosses seem to drop leads about 50/50 if it is a lead specific to that boss. I had to catch about 600 fish to get both fishing leads.

Agreed. raise the drop rate, and move the folks through.

If i hadn't been here for over a IRL day this wouldn't be such a problem.

Same in the pub dungeons move the folks through so they arent mucking up the dungeon making it unusable for dungeon goers

I think if they raise drop rates in problematic areas it would fix the issue.
