You know what's neat? Making it impossible to get a Lead. Not Glitched, just impossible.

Used my saved up 6 Bal Foyen Treasure Maps (3 of the set), didn't get the Ancestral Motif leads. Bought another 7 from Guild Vendors. Still nothing (and it was expensive).

Don't even have the luxury of an add-on (This is on PS4), and have looked at literally EVERY guild Vendor in the game now, and no one has any Bal Foyen Maps left.

So I guess I just can't get this lead? At least with RNG nonsense like Thieves Troves or Safeboxes, you can just wait and they'll respawn. But Treasure Maps? Yikes.

I mean, I could grind Dolmens for a few weeks and get a map, sure. But that seems a little insane.

In my experience there seems to be a cooldown on these leads.

I have been trying to get all the ancestral motifs by using my treasure maps and buying others’ for the relevant zones. If I have already acquired quite a few leads that day, I’ve found myself using more and more maps without success. Trying again sometime the next day seems to yield a much better chance at getting motif leads on the first or second try.

This is of course purely anecdotal, but there are similar motif cooldowns in game (e.g. stealing House motifs in Vvardenfell, getting Shield of Senchal from Dragonhold dailies, drawing New Moon Priest from the box before that mechanic was changed, etc.). So perhaps there is a cooldown on these as well — if not a hard one, then at least a much, much lower chance to draw motif leads from multiple zones in the same day.

I'd be inclined to agree with you, but I got the Ancestral Motifs an Alik'r and Auridon yesterday within, maybe, 6 hours of each other (4th Map in Alik'r, first map in Auridon)? It's been at least 20 hours since those, and none from Bal Foyen.

If you can't do it, it must be impossible, right?

Also, dolmens for treasure maps? There are other, much easier, ways to get treasure maps. Even if you don't want to go farm chests, you could wait a few weeks and map prices will drop (as has already happened on PC) and you can pick them up then.

Alright Wise Man, how would YOU farm Treasure Maps?

I've gotten almost all of them, and chased the Nord one primarily. On average, I think I needed 4 maps to get the motif, most were 1-3 with Stormhaven giving me motifs 4 times.

Bal Foyen tho is weird, took me over 10 maps to get the motifs there no other zone comes even remotely close. Think 7 was the 2nd highest so far. So you're not alone at getting annoyed with that one, but they do drop, eventually.

At least I also got 3 dutiful guars for my trouble...

I got 3 in a row in Stormhaven, around 10 minutes apart, if there's a CD, it's an odd one.

I run treasure chest farms. I have my main set up as a speed toon, with maximum force lock. There is a spot I farm in Coldharbour that can get you a chest every 20 seconds or so. Maybe more if you're fast and not in competition with others. I have the treasure hunter passive to increase my overall gains. You can go to other zones as well if you prefer such as Deshaan for a chance at Mother's Sorrow gear, though you may be in competition with others at that point. You can go into the public dungeon in Deshaan and farm chests there which are largely ignored by players in favor of spam killing bosses. Scoop up those chests that are ignored as well as killing bosses.

You may find yourself with extra maps for zones you already have motifs for. Offer to swap them to friends and guildmates to get maps you do need so everyone wins.

There isn't. Or at the very least there wasn't until last patch - I got the very motifs OP is struggling with in my first and second chests in a row, within like 10 minutes from each other(there is though a catch of having to scry the leads you already got first because you can't have 2 of the same lead at once afaik). It got me about 10 Khenarthi's maps though to get those though. RNG just be RNG.

Far as farming treasure maps goes - you could also try to farm them off dragons in Elsweyr, they often drop that document pouch which can contains furniture recipes (sometimes expensive ones too) or treasure maps, and on PC at least Southern Elsweyr dragons are being zerged hard, never surviving beyond their first landing spot.

Also, prices on these motifs drop rather fast (I imagine they still higher on consoles as it's been released there later, but they will inevitably drop), on PC most seem in the 10-20k ratio now and I'm sure they'll drop more as this is something people will inevitably get more of just by playing the game even without trying to farm. If your RNG hates you, you can just wait til the price drop enough to simply buy it all (as opposed to buying treasure maps to no avail).

    Good luck!
