UI unresponsive when drawn into combat during excavation (XB NA)

Last night I was in the middle of excavating a dig site in Kenarthi's Roost when I was drawn into combat by one of the human npcs along the coast. The combat closed the excavation screen and brought me back to the standard environment screen, however when I tried to attack the npc, any button I pressed made the "can't interact" sound effect and prompted a message saying "This dig site is not active."

I was able to move my character, but not input any commands or access any other screen. Hitting the menu button or map button and all active skill buttons brought the same sound and notification. Luckily my pet was able to kill the npc, but when I tried interacting with the dig site again I was given the same sound and error.

I was able to work out of the situation by using my wireless keyboard and entering /reloadui into the text chat, but using the controller to try to enter chat mode from the menu would not have worked due to no controller inputs being allowed.
