Random disconnects

Is anyone else getting random disconnects?

I've had about 6 or so random disconnects over the past 2 days - about 4 yesterday when I was questing in Western Skyrim and Blackreach, and 2 today when I was exploring underground and collecting antiquities. And the reason I get given is because I "lost connection to the server" or "An unexpected error has occurred".

The thing is I don't even get an indication of losing connectivity. I would just randomly run around with a massive speed boost or skills won't fire and then I would be taken to the login page with either of the two errors (losing connectivity being the most frequent one). I would click close, log in with no issues, play with decent ping and fps, and then get disconnected again for no reason whatsoever.

I know for a fact that I'm not losing connection because other apps that require an internet like discord work perfectly fine.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing it?

Got huge ping spikes today, over 7k, then back down to around 76, which is normal for me. I even dc'd from vMoL this evening in a scheduled guild run. I don't typically have lag on my PCNA beast of a computer, and my very expensive internet is certainly not the issue, nor has it ever been. It's not a very nice surprise to log in this evening and find that the performance of the game is literally unplayable, so I logged out. Skills won't fire, lag is worse for me than it has ever been, and everyone around me stops moving, so I might as well not play, if I cannot command my characters.

I got DC'd 11 times trying to do my trait research. Literally 11 times! Could barely walk; couldn't crouch; would freeze in position; interacting with workbenches or writ turn-in would take several seconds (if it worked at all); NPC dialogue is missing; transferring items to bank took upwards of 20-30 seconds PER item; and the same when attaching items to mail - which would take even longer to actually send. My ping & up/down are all fine. This is inexcusable.

Since the patch it's been happening to me, sometimes just going to the mages guild or something and i get dropped.. got dropped as soon as i clicked the play button on the launcher earlier. I have never known this kind of problem and as i play this through steam i was wondering if somehow the problem was there. I tried running eso using the eso64exe without steam but it didn't like that forcing me to use the steam launcher.

I'm on PC EU and this is happening to me since years on a pretty regular basis - about twice per hour played - it was that way when I played from germany with a very low ping same in south africa with a medium ping and now from australia with a quite high ping - and in all those cases I had different hardware - so it is not me, ZOS servers can just not keep a connection going without to run into trouble - it happens less outside of prime time but it is still happening. Lately I had even roll back where after relogging I found myself set back quite a bit and had to move quite a distance to get back to where I was.

Seems my issue is not related to yours though - this sounds terrible especially ShawnLaRock's experience is awkward.

Today it's been a few random disconnects and i have just tried to login from the launcher and 3 times in a row it crashed as soon as i clicked the play button.. so running a launcher repair to see if that works and if i get in how long before it drops me again. Before the last patch it was rare i had any problems. I play through steam and it won't let me bypass it and use the ESO64.. tried that but nope won't let me. I got the corrupt patch warning again, so uninstalled ESO from steam and reinstalling it again. Fingers and toes crossed. Edit: A few hours have past and i finally have ESO back and working.

I've been having random disconnect issues ever since I returned back in June. I tried all the normal solutions provided by ZoS to no avail. Its definitely not my connection as every other, I mean EVERY other game works just fine. I also can play via Stadia and not disconnect (but experience more lag, and no addons).

That led me to believe its a ISP networking issue. I installed a VPN and I haven't disconnected since. And with no noticeable lag, all my addons, I'm back in business.

Makes me wonder now, of all the people who have been reporting disconnects over the past several months, how many of them are on Spectrum Internet?

Yes. Several per day. And they are definitely random — I’ve had them happen in multiple situations. It doesn’t happen with any other programs I run and my computer is fairly recent, so I think it’s a problem with the game itself.

The use of other apps to see when you lose connection is not very reliable unless one knows the application will show a dropped connection quickly. ESO is not very forgiving with internet drops as it only takes a second of lost connection, and the client will not be able to re-establish the connection again. Some clients can handle a brief moment of no data being transferred.

I would suggest using TS as it will show a lost connection pretty fast, and you can also view packet loss though where that packet loss is occurring is not displayed. Other applications can be used, but TS is one that most gamers should be familiar with, is easy to DL, and one can connect to public TS servers if they do not know of any others.

    Good luck getting it resolved.

You mentioned in a post in September concerning ESO constant disconnects, which I am having a real bad problem with right now, that you made use of a VPN to resolve your issues. I also read about this in another venue but now I'm wanting to look into it after being sick of ESOs disconnects due to their ping rate.

Since thadia is through a separate device and all VPN options I know of ours via software on a computer so how would you do it for your Chromecast?

Thank you for any insight that you may be able to provide be much appreciated and also what VPN were you utilizing and have you been satisfied with them?

    Thank you much,
    Adam
