Maw of the infernal?

Hi everyone.

Has anyone already tested how the new maw of the infernal set holds against staples like zaan, or valkin scoria?

The damage was nerfed, but the one piece gives max mag (adding around 100 SP - to all skills), and the proc chance has also increased, meaning the beast will be there almost full time.

Has it become good? Especially with the daedric prey skill?
Zaan is good, but sometimes, melee range just won't do.

For an average pet sorc with the standard setup (PFG, MS, MSA-inferno backbar): Some preliminary tests on target dummies result in almost the same performance of Maw compared to Zaan, and both better than the new Ilambris. As Zaan's beam has to be consistently on the target, I guess it is still preferable in rather static boss fights, but Maw would be better against trash mobs and boss fights with a lot of movement.

This is in line with Liko's much more detailed analysis:

Most raids are 20 deep these days. 12 players and 8 Daedra running around. Haha

If you can handle the obnoxiously large pet, Maw is pretty tough to beat as a mag DPS for the vast majority of situations this patch. Basically on par with Zaan and you dont have to worry about breaking the tether or being in melee.

If you happen to be a DK running Elf Bane, also give Ilambris a hard look this patch. It is really strong as well.

They should make it so you cannot see other's people pet

    It's useless to know anyway.

    Unless it's pvp.

I've been using Maw of the Infernal since the update. The 33% chance is still in a weird spot. Sometimes you have near 100% up-time with the set, but other times you cycle through 11 or 12 light attacks before it pops. It's kind of annoying to have RNG determine such a cool set.

I would prefer to see it have a guarantee proc with a small down time before it can proc again. I've also wondered how cool it would be to just have the helm operate as a permanent pet when you wear it. Once you enter combat, it spawns and attacks. Once you leave combat, it returns to oblivion. That would be awesome, and they could slightly lower the damage to compensate for 100% up-time.

Agreed. There should be a toggle for all friendly pets. If it's not trying to kill me (or heal the guy trying to kill me), I don't need to see it.

Based on old data, the Infernal dealt damage as:

    MAW OF THE INFERNAL
Fiery Breath: spell resistance - Fire -AoE x5hits
Jagged Claw: physical resistance - Physical -single target
Fiery Jaws: physical resistance - Fire -single target

Even though the old set description said it dealt Physical Damage.
Current iteration says it deals Flame Damage, supposedly entirely.
Does anyone know whether things have changed or the special ability properties remain the same?

Everything it does is fire now.
The breath - which uses to be its best attack - is now its weakest attack and a waste of time.
Positive is that some time, its burning proc deals damage similar to that of the player, instead of 100 per tick like some time ago.

The fire is actually best for it's utility, it's an AOE and it pulls running vamps out of stealth - which is everyone in the game right now.

I have not seen a single one of those yet. All I have seen is Bat Scions that fall quickly.
