Will we ever see a BIG improvement in Performance?

According to an Interview with Rich there are a lot of Developers involved in imporving the Game Performance. Especially in Cyro we're it matters the most.

Atm we are at a point we're cyro prime time is so unplayable i even question myself if this state of Performance is legal to have over such a long time. But anyway prolly there is now law forcing a Developer into making every part of the game Work like it should.

So, we have Performance beyond good and evil. You cant even describe it. Its Bad. Really Bad. We know it, they know it.

Personally i would like to have an Statement from someone at ZOS, prolly from Rich or so, If they think they can fix it. If we will ever see a working Cyro in prime time. With 50+ players in screen and stable 40fps and minimal (or even None) delay on skills. If big battles for keeps will someday not be a lagfest were ppl non stop Crash, port around and Sieges need 10 seconds to fire.

Rich, you said you and your team is doing a great job with communication and i hope we get an honest reply to this. Proove your good communication and answer this:

"Will cyro be playable at Prime time in the next 3 years?"

I doubt it. I definitely wouldn' t wait for it. There's nothing that indicates a major breakthrough.

Not sure if EVE ever solved the problem off lagging out big fleet battles, anyone?

Question has been asked for 4 years now. Performance has gotten worse each of those years. If I was a betting man I’d go with no.

Im hearing the same story over and over again (fix this, fix that, download again, endless performance plan) and each update it worsen.

Imho: No, cyro wont have good performance, its too late.

well it converts into a slide show with a few thousand ships - but as there is time dilation in place, no one has an advantage or disadvantage from it, it is just terribly slow. but the scene is stable, no disconnects or something like that. But then again combat is rather complex in EVE and it performs pretty well in medium sized battles with a few hundred ships.

lately CCP is experimenting with a new engine, which looks promising in regards to large scale battles.

    Nope, for the following reasons:

    1) They cannot / don't care to fix it.

    2) It will cost and won't bring back cash.

Probably not. I think they are trying to code their way out of spending any money on needed resources to meet capacity and if they do spend, it's not going to be until it impacts casual overland and 4 mans, and THEN; it will be just enough to patch it along.

I seem to recall we used to have decent performance in Cyrodill. In the first year.

I have a lot of disdain for ZoS since Wrathsrone mainly.

    That being said.

My CYRO performance is WAY better than it has been in years since Greymoor.

It's still unacceptable for sure, but I'm now excited to see what the Q3 and Q4 performance brings.

Not a law they could ever make as "How it should perform can never be clearly defined". Its up to interpretation and varies by what level of PC you own. So I doubt any such law exists.

When I look at other games, e.g. minecraft, the biggest performance improvements never seem to come from the developer itself.
PaperMC, Optifine, FabricLithium+Phosphor seem to be proof of that.
Minecraft Java isn't technically open source, but it can be decompiled somewhat efficiently.

Generalizing this to ESO, this means ESO will never have good performance again without switching to clientside calculations or open sourcing the code.

The anticheat that had to be put into place was probably the most drastic change that people saw hurt the performance when the "lighting" changes happened in 1.6.

There are alot of choices also that have been made over the years that were generally geared towards reducing the skill gap that have drastically hurt the performance of the game. In pvp you will notice that small man groups are not common anymore unless they are 6year vet players that use every trick in the book to handle losing the raw winning by numbers game. Combat has been so geared towards winning by numbers and benefiting indefinitely from stacking more and more players that why should newer players or medium tier players branch out?
Mechanic changes that hurt PvP over the years.
    1. Over time effects now all stack, leads to ball heal stacking, ball simple dot damage stacking
    2. Exponential mechanics removed that help players in outnumbered situations only.
    3. Keep ticks are worth more, while resources/outposts/towns mean little to nothing
    4. The hammer artificially draws low to medium tier players into faction stacks without a pug wrangling guild at fault
    5. Abilities/sets being over complicated with numerous procs and unecessary amounts of calculations
    6. destroyable bridges and gates, leads to artificial faction stacking in the opposite direction.
    7. Murkmire movement changes, In short: movement was fine> swift too strong> zos nerfs all forms of fluid movement>nerf swift
    8. Too many sources of snares/roots, leading to more condensed fights without free flowing combat with counter options

There are obviously more on top of these issues, but some are simple changes to make.

Like finding places to add in longer snare removal sources with inclass options reaching 6-8 seconds so it is actually worth using counterplay options and get rewarded for doing so. Or making groups of players receive exponentially less ap from all sources so faction stacking in one spot lagging out the server is not the go to way to get easy ap. Make resource takes/defends while keeps are flagged worth alot of ap so small man groups can have something to do during a fight.

If they wanted to really bring PvP down to smaller scale fights to spread out and reduce lag they could even make changes like defenders can respawn at a resource once every 10 mins or something. Then there is a reason for people to attack and defend resources at all points of a keep seige. Instead of using a forward camp and then stacking back on crown. Or adding in a small stat bonuses to groups with four or less players to incentivize those medium tier or even lower tier players with a means to combat outnumbered situations.

At this point, we should probably accept the state of Cyrodiil as it is.

I don't think this will ever be fixed, if this really bothers you, you should look for another game unfortunately.

Over the last few years, and since zenimax acknowledged the massive performance issue about a year ago and laid out their plan to fix it, have you ever seen performance get better? As a console pvp player I have only seen it get worse. Sometimes after an update it will get extremely bad and things will be broken, and they will fix it. But over all it has not gotten better over time. So imo there is no evidence that they ever will.

What about the 2019 Q4 performance fixes that were supposed to help people with lower end PCs and console users? It literally made things worse and i cannot find a post where zos explains why whatever they did had the opposite effect. If someone can find it please show me.

You know not to name names, but I vaguely remember hearing one of the old team members 4 years ago say that they were fixing the lag in cyrodil. Now that same person may be the head of combat, so yeah.... high hopes to come.

Tbh what id adore and I know it most likely wouldnt be feasible would be a long period of a few months like what rb6 siege did re: Operation Health, where there is no focus on new content but instead knuckling down on the core issues and trying to raise performance/squash current bugs.

It brought siege back from the dead into the success story it is and we cant lie eso has taken a hit in popularity due to the current server issues and desync, and performance has been brutal the past 4 months or so with trials being incredibly desync'd and overland content being hit also.

But I also have to give kudus to the community staff and team since greymoors launch communication has been on point and least there has been an acknowledgement that "yes we see your reports" and they are being looked at.

I'am hoping since they hit the target for the release date of greymoor they can get back to the roadmap and start improving things once again.

No you will not, it's been buggy from the start the game is held together with spaghetti and I would not be shocked if it was running off a server that is not even close to what it needs to be, there is 0 motivation for them to improve it at this point the game won't be competing with next gen MMOs when there is some and the people who are tolerating the state of this game will continue to do so.

I just tried the new patch on xbox EU server...

So I can tell you there is 1 major change: lag. There is more lag.

I won't buy Greymoor or spend more money on the game until I can play it without having a storming headache.
