Healers! Need some help!

I was having a discussion with a friend about healing and buffs/debuffs and specifically about Necros. I haven't done the research yet, so thought I'd ask here first.... In terms of healers(Templars, Wardens, Necros).... how does their healing toolkit compare in terms of buffs/debuffs specifically? I know the Necro Totem grants protection and the Grave Grasp offers Main and Empower, but haven't looked through ALL the classes yet and was wondering how they compared side by side on paper. Any input?

People tend to expect healers to provide the buffs/debuffs that Templars and Warden's have.

If you have a group that can get past those expectations, pretty much every class other than Sorcerer has a good selection of buffs and/or debuffs that they can bring to a group.

Necromancers are particularly strong when it comes to debuffs.

    I agree with that completely.

Would you be so kind as to enlighten me about those so I can become a little better informed/educated?

    Agony Totem: Minor Vulnerability
    Grave Grasp: Minor Maim
Frozen Colossus: Major Vulnerability (this is the big one you can't get elsewhere)
Unnerving Boneyard: Major Breach and Major Fracture
Blighted Blastbones: Major Defile (although a healer probably wouldn't run this)

Necromancers also have in-class access to all of the Elemental status effects.

    Fixed that for you.

Sorc legitimately has far fewer group buff/debuff options than the other classes.

That said, they do bring other things, like one of the best burst heals in the game and slightly better DPS (when healing) than some of the other classes.

Sorcs do indeed have the best burst heal in-game, but saying that dk and nb has more to bring to group than sorc... Lol.

How does this compare to the Templar and Warden debuffs? Also technically The Grave(Empowering) Grasp also grants Empower to allies it hits if you cast it on the boss from behind a hard stack like nCR or nSS.

Sorc literally only brings minor prophecy, minor intellect, and major berserk (via an ultimate).

NB can bring Major Fracture and Breach, Major Expedition, Minor Savagery, Minor Vulnerability, Minor Maim, and Minor Magickasteal, plus Major Protection, Invisibility, +70% speed and Major Vitality via ultimates

DK brings +10% flame damage, minor Maim, Major Brutality and Sorcery, minor Brutality, damage shields, and Major Defile (via an ultimate).

Just because you don't expect healers to provide the DK and NB buffs/debuffs doesn't mean they don't exist.

In trial setup you can remove 80% of the lists you made for dk and nb. And you forgot to add sorc a unique synergy. Just because a class can provide buffs it doesn't matter if group already have them.

Also, a "unique synergy" isn't a buff. That said, if we are talking about synergies, DK and Sorc are equivalent (Shackle and Ignite vs Charged Lightning and Conduit).

Just hit them with Combat Prayer from resto staff line and nobody will care about the rest.

Not everyone does trials. And considering things like Major Sorc and Brutality are normally done with pots, I'm willing to bet that a few trial groups wouldn't mind a source that doesn't cost them any money.

Just hit them with Combat Prayer from resto staff line and nobody will care about the rest.

I will say that all of my healers, whatever their class, have pretty much got a similar group of skills that I throw on at least one of their bars:

From Resto (in order of how I bar them, not how they are gotten):
-Mutagen (morph of regeneration with a LOT of reach for those DD's running around in every direction)
-Combat Prayer (morph of Blessing of Protection) (careful - it's directional) but heals AND buffs AND adds resistance - remember a shield is also a heal
-Healing Springs (morph of Grand Healing) lots of tics of healing and you can plop it right where it's needed
-Siphon Spirit (morph of Force Siphon) since your DD's are going to be attacking the enemy anyway, make it work for you - and them. Heals and magica back - there is no down side here.

Now granted, I usually will pick between Combat Prayer and Healing Springs, and for most situations, Combat Prayer wins.

The resto ulti: Life Giver (morph of Panacea) besides being a lovely fairly cheap healing ulti - it also does other things: "When you activate this ability you automatically cast Regeneration, Blessing of Protection, and Steadfast Ward at no cost." Woo Hoo!!

    Undaunted skill:
-Energy Orb (a morph of necrotic orb) Project a globe of regeneration that slowly floats forward, healing for 115 Health every 0.5 seconds to you and nearby allies. NOTE: An ally can activate the Healing Combustion synergy, causing the orb to explode and heal to 795 Health to all friendly targets and restore 3960 Magicka or Stamina to the ally, whichever maximum to higher.

So you don't have to be a templar to offer resources to your team!

One thing - used to be you could have several of these rolling around. Not any more. BUT multiple team members can get the synergy (and targeting is much improved - thank Azura!).
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...

Nightblades or necros are what you want if your tank can't be bothered to do the standard 1H&S breach/fracture/maim debuffing.

I have both Warden and Templar healers.

Both have great tool kits and both can be very effective. Personally I find the Templar to be that bit easier to heal consistently with and I tend to use him when engaging with end game content, rather than the Warden.

I did make a Necro healer, and the ultimate group resurrection is a thing of beauty, you wont use it often, but when you do need it, its very good fun and can save wipe. But other than that, I just didn't feel it was doing much that I couldn't already do with my Templar or Warden, so I changed it into a dps :)

With all the sets and skill lines everyone has available, Id say just pick whichever class you like the feel of best and build around it.

Wish I'd had it on my necro tank yesterday....that would have been cool.
