snow treaders really point out how much snare and root spam there is

it honestly took a little getting used to, but them with elude, awesome. ice storm speeds you up, jabs speed you up, walk through zerg rushes. fantastic.

a few edge cases of being annoyed I cannot swing at a guy 5 feet from me, but overall they fit well with my ride or die playstyle. admit I switched to them from the wild hunt ring because I felt I was going to crutch on it too much.

what made me put them on was I died with the ring on at some point and thought it was just a CC break free glitch, then I realized that I was perma rooted by someone just SPAMMING bombard non stop for their group.

its fun walking around, saves resources too, you don't smack a snare removal ever 3 seconds or every root, and I can run elude np and switch back to rally.

it ends up round about making you a lot more survivable.

The true downside is if you get the permanent stuck in combat bug, which doesn’t let you mount, swap gear, swap abilities, etc. With this set you can’t sprint anymore either.

I think what he means is that, if you got stuck in combat without Snow Treaders on, you'd at least be able to sprint. With them, you can't.

Some Battlegrounds end up overflowing with Bombard, Ice Root, and/or DK Talons. Not being able to sprint is definitely a drawback of the boots, but it's sometimes hard to even be functional on certain classes in the root-spam BG matches...it's something that ZOS has needed to address for a long time.

Absolutely, I just wish they addressed it in a way that actually examined the problem rather than giving a band-aid fix. That said I’m now farming a second pair so I don’t have to swap them around.

found the first bypass of them and reported it

gargoyles in bangkori have a hamstring debuff that snares, and hits through the snow treaders.

I got snared and was like "what What WHAT!" and ran around fighting them all to figure out what it was.

    reported and moving on

the only BG I found that they didn't do well in was the capture the relic, as I got chased down once and could not sprint away, had I had the ring I def would have gotten away.

that said BG meta is pretty crap right now anyway.

When one piece of gear makes or breaks your playstyle, it might be a good indicator that it's OP and may be getting nerfed in the future.

Yes lol. A bug which is more like a feature at this point, crippling this set. So you need to think about whether it’s worth the risk or not since being stuck in combat is common.

That goes for all of ESO PvP though. The entire meta is shaped based on bugs and intense server lag.

I should have worded that a bit differently.

What I mean is that Zenimax should have done something about certain abilities + root/snare immunity a long time ago. In my view, roots and snares both need to be in the game, and both need to be worth using in PvP, but you shouldn't be able to spam roots nonstop with only 2 seconds of immunity here and there. Especially when one of the main offenders - Bombard - is a ranged AOE ability that often does more damage to each target than magicka-based single target spammables do. And those magicka abilities also don't have such an incredibly powerful utility attached to them.

I haven't even bought Greymoor, and don't plan to until it goes on a deep discount - if even then. $40 just to do a boring PvE grind to get a couple items that I might use in PvP? No, thanks. If it becomes a situation where you "have" to get those items in order to compete, I'll probably just quit playing again, since that's getting far too much into pay-to-win territory for me to tolerate.

    doubt it,

I imagine the ring will be higher on the list as it reintroduced the previously nerf'd swift meta. or one of the damage sets as people always complain about damage.

but I could see a snow treaders nerf thread. . .

"please nerf I could not bombard spam him and he slowly walked at / away from me"

    something like that.

I'm going to have to grind this. I got killed the other day by people just spamming talons and bombard using talons synergy with harmony. Might give me the ability to run magicka as one of my biggest hates if doing it is only 2 seconds immunity. Still need speed from somewhere though. Especially if you cant sprint.

interestingly I have not really noticed this. the gap close snare is super short, and I KNOW I have had NB's just spam it on me once or twice, but gap closers in general are not really run anymore, as you tend to just not have room on your bar and it is simply enough to root spam / snare people to death.

even streak breaks distance faster then you can close in most cases (or you get the poor *** who managed to stick to the streaking sorc and is now in a mile away 1v1 with a magsorc LOL)

I end up saving so much in resources not spaming snare removal, and being able to slot rally again has been nice, was able to walk my way out of a failed keep capture just healing and walking (occasionally rolling) and saw the bombards try to stop me more then once.

I'm really surprised to see this because they have been removing snares across the board, from many class and weapon skill lines, for over a year. There was a big purge a while ago, and they also changed how snares work. A 10% snare used to reduce your total movement speed by 10% (as in, if you were going at 150% movement speed, a 20% snare would make you go at 120% speed), but it was nerfed to reduce your base movement speed (so if you were at 150% movement speed, a 20% snare brings you down to 130%)

Snow-treaders removes your ability to sprint, which does save Stamina, but sprint is a huge movement speed boost, especially for medium armor players.

I definitely feel like I get snared way more in Cyrodiil than battlegrounds. Last battleground match, I don't recall being snared often, and maybe died while snared just once or twice. But I was also running Steed Stone and Ring of the Wild Hunt, so snares might have been less noticeable

At higher MMR ranges in PC-NA Battlegrounds, there are numerous Bombard spammers, a handful of Ice Staff users (which aren't nearly as much of a problem if you're Nord), and some Mag DKs that use Talons quite a bit. In some games you'd be better off switching out the Snow Treaders, but in others it's hard to even be functional without them on some Magicka setups. You can't afford to dodge roll out of enough of the roots for it to matter, and it just isn't practical to spend half of your GCDs on RAT or Mist Form, especially when you're actually being focused.

its very convenient that the ONLY CC you need to keep track of is hard cc, and that is on a cooldown. I find im able to handle large outnumbered situations better because I have MUCH less to worry about and can just move freely.

I don't see this getting nerfed. The trade off is pretty balanced.

If you can't get rooted, you still have to obtain some form of Major/Minor Expedition to get anywhere fast.
