Bug? Magicka skill not casting when no stamina...

I've experienced this issue multiple times lately but couldn't quite put my finger on it until last night:

A magicka skill wouldn't activate, even though I had a full magicka bar. It was as though I was trying to cast with no magicka available. I could use my weapon, but no matter what skill I was trying to use, it would not cast. It wasn't for lack of a target either, and wasn't lag either, I was trying to use heals. This most recent time I noticed my stamina bar flashing when trying to activate Polar Wind, a magicka skill (and there is no stam morph so that cant be it)!

Has anyone else noticed this before, or anything similar? I'm pretty sure it is stamina related because I was knocked down, used break free, and was left with an empty stam bar.

Was hoping to actually figure it out before submitting a bug report.

Yup, bug. It's been happening more and more for me recently. It's gotten to the point where I try to avoid sprinting just to make sure I have stam available - even though the skills still drain magicka when cast if the stam bar is empty your skill won't fire. Bar swapping can "fix" it. Not 100% but seems to work more often than not.

Dodge roll always works, but usually don’t have stamina to dodge roll once you notice the problem.

It is entirely stamina related. I file a bug report each and every time I get it; recommend you do the same. Bar swapping fixes it most times, but it's not guaranteed.

This is all anecdotal experience so you can take it with a grain of salt... but I think I have a good grasp on how it works.

The bug is triggered when you are sprinting, enter combat, and for some reason the game messes up the command to exit sprint. Part of the game thinks you are still sprinting and part of it doesn't. you will notice that you loose the ability to toggle sprint on and off, and any movement will be at sprint speed, but standing still doesn't not cancel the effect. You also cannot use any abilities since you are still "sprinting" and so any ability you try to activate will fail.

In order to break out of this state, you need to dodge roll. Simple enough... but easier said than done. To dodge roll you need stamina. Since you are in permanent sprint mode, all movement drains stamina. Blocking also drains it and prevents it from refilling. Your natural instinct when you realize that you cannot fight is to either try to run out of range or block attacks.

The trick to beating this bug is to stay calm and not panic. Don't move, don't block... just sit there and take hits until you have the stamina to roll. It shouldn't be too long. As soon as you can roll, do it and then heal up. SOMETIMES you can light attack in this state since the attack comes out before the animation is cancelled by your permanent run.

I'll have to give that a try because its reeeeally stressing me out when I cant heal everyone and we're on the verge of seeing oblivion first hand lol
