LOVE the Antiquities system!

I love loot more than anything, it is why I play MMOs and not single-player games - but I'm not great with puzzles so it was with trepidation that I started the Antiquities skill line. I absolutely LOVE it! It may be the best game system I've ever seen implemented in an MMO. The slow progress is allowing me to truly learn as I try new ways to scry and excavate. I enjoy that it is encouraging me to return to zones I've finished because although I have months left on my sub and had bought Greymoor, my interest in the game was declining rapidly. Not anymore - THANK YOU for creating this amazing system<3

I enjoy the antiquities system myself... I like such treasure hunts, just running around finding goodies... yes, its rather grindy, but... all that grinding will get me lotsa gold I can invest in motivs, so... worth it? For me, its kinda like the next stage of my exploration and treasure chest expeditions, so... yay from me!

And of course, I love how they could keep adding more things to find for, like, forever! We have three "ancestral" motivs I am soo looking forward to digging up, and I reckon we could get three more next year, and another after that, and so on...

And of course, there will be those extra-special items to find... makes me wonder if someday they might do a "next stage" and add "mythic" set items as well... like, a special version of the "normal" set item, with an extra "mythic" effect... to make some sets more desirable again (and of course send people grinding their antiquarian skillz)

    Different people like different things.
No need to start downputting remarks just because you cannot imagine someone might like a system you obviously dislike.
    ...but to each their own
    Exactly.
Some people love PvP, others wish to see it gone from ESO, some people love dungeon runs, others hate them, and some people love antiquity explorings, while others may not.
"And ye harm none, do as ye will", right? ;)
So, those who like it, go be antiquarians, those who don't... do whatever brings them joy, and everyone goes their way pursuing their happyness in whatever works for -them-.

Indeed! I also will not PVP, but to those who enjoy it, excellent you do you=) And to those who wonder if my post is genuine: it is indeed! I LOVE the new system and wanted to express appreciation for those that worked on it.

Great some people love it, I find it the most boring game mechanic I have seen in a long time hope to never do it again tbh but to each their own

It wore out its welcome around level 7 or 8.

But then my first legendary attempt was difficult enough to make it interesting.

You pretty much have to max it out if you want to follow that mythic lead.

I enjoy what I've experienced of it which is very little so far. But I like anything to do with archaeology and, yes, I sure do have maxed out archaeology in WoW.

I think a lot of people feel like they need to grind it out as fast as possible but to me that doesn't really seem like the best way to engage with the system. It seems more like something to do here and there as you travel.

I was OK with it, until the digsites stopped appearing where they should have been.

Running around in circles, in old zones, with crippling lag, being attacked by irritating spiders and skeletons, for nothing, is not fun.

Khajiit is enjoying it very much so far, though from level 7 onwards it does become a struggle to make progress because higher level leads no longer are generated by the digsites themselves.

This one has several apprentices who still need skyshards and so now and again she will send one out to have a wander and hopefully find a lead or two along the way. Breaks things up a bit that way too.

The thirty day limit though. We could do without that. No one wants to lose a high level lead and therefore there is a certain pressure to keep levelling even if you would rather go at a slower pace.

Drop the 30 day limit and unbind purple furnishings and then you will pretty much have hit the green square with the shovel, so to speak.

I enjoy it also, it adds an interesting fun element to gathering mats which I do at the same time - as i was going to be running around gathering anyway it breaks up that monotony.

And when I get fed up - well I have a character in Cyrodill and and healer in PUGs and a mage doing cadwells gold - so variety is the spice of life no?

This is a valid argument though. Let us go even slower if we want.

I find it to be rather boring and tedious but thought it would get better as I get higher level. Now I'm reading that it gets worse as you get higher level so I'm not sure how long I will continue with the skill line. On the upside, while I was running around in Bleakrock, looking for the digsite, I found an aetherial dust in a runestone. I left Bleakrock a happy camper!

Last night I levelled my Scrying/Excavation up to level 5; I was super excited to be able to hunt down antique furniture to display in my home. I managed to get the Eight-Point Welkynd Chandelier from Grahtwood and it looks amazing! I definitely feel a level of accomplishment associated with this piece of furniture.

I enjoy the system. It's nice to have another non-combat addition to the game.

Devs will not see my post, but I like antiquities too.

I like getting leads all over the place.
I like being able to take a break from fighting and questing and do the scrying and digging.
I like that you get wide variety of things for it so it never feels like a one trick deal.

Honestly i never did pvp in the past but now i love it too - im in the lucky position that i enjoy and do ALL aspects of ESO even when im still mostly a solo story quester

My biggest gripe with antiquities tbh is - and maybe im just stupid - but it takes me always a loooooooooong time to actually find the dig site within the area it should be....

A bit early to tell about Antiquities, I feel.
I see guildies doing it and posting their finds, BUT they are also going for specific Mythics -- seeing lots of Ring of the Wild Hunt. So once they get them we'll see if only the furnishing people are left doing this.

    unbind purple furnishings

So they can be traded and sold? Is that a risky move that will encourage mindless farming of certain lead sources? I'd rather not see any new 24/7 Alik'r Desert Dolmen type situations.

Antiquities system: Where you pay ZOS so you can log in to your job and grind just to stay competitive. Another unnecessary addition to the game instead of fixing and improving the current product. /me Can't wait to spend hours grinding for items/gear so next patch it can be "balanced" (nerfed).

or maybe I can look forward to grinding for gear to have it nerfed like maelstrom weapons and get the stat taken away only to have it be brought back in a perfected version so we can grind all over again. -_- yay.

Nobody is trying to take away from people's enjoyment of the system. People are free to enjoy the gameplay of Antiquities. OP shared their love for the system, great! Nobody has an issue with that. Plenty of people enjoy mobile games like Candy Crush too. I also used to play Tetris on Gameboy back in the day and it was fun!

But there is nothing rude in me pointing out that many of the praised aspects of Antiquities are actually their main drawback if one were to analyze the system critically ('critically' as in with critical thinking, not as in negatively). It's one thing to express enjoyment such as 'I like this' and giving undue praise like 'single player minigames are great MMO gameplay'. It isn't an unconstructive attack on anyone's enjoyment, simply a factual discussion of the listed criteria.
    1. The gameplay is reminiscent of mobile games, they are single-player-focused minigames. So it's hard to argue that Antiquities are great MMO gameplay, or great for people who prefer MMOs rather than single-player games.
    2. The Leads come from unknown locations. Without community sourced datasheets, how would anybody know that a Glenumbra Antiquity needs a Lead from Cyrodiil? How long will they farm WBs, chests and public dungeons before they realize that it doesn't even drop from that zone? Leads are not only unknown, but are also not guaranteed drops. But they are bound. Clearly, this doesn't make Antiquities a good system to get loot.
    3. The good Antiquities are gated behind higher Skill ranks and are Bound. Cosmetic fluff like Motifs requires low skill rank and are also tradeable. Loot from other minigames such as Lockpicking or Fishing is tradeable, but not with Antiquities that actually relate to MMO gameplay. So this requires an arbitrarily determined long skill level grind until the ordained passives allow the player to even look for the Lead they had to earn through RNG in the first place.
    4. The Leads have an expiration date. So the system incentivizes grinding, not taking our time. Since Leads are not guaranteed drops, we can't just reliably re-obtain them if we want to take it slow. It also requires repetitive grinding, since finding the basic Treasures once isn't enough to max out the Skill Lines, we need to grind the same thing over and over, as soon as possible.
    5. Going back to old zones may be a good feeling, but Antiquities isn't a base game update. Antiquities and Mythic items are a feature of Graymoor which is paid content. And to access many of the fragments, we need to buy even more DLCs. There is no lore reason for a Bosmer-inspired ring to have fragments in Murkmire, instead of coming from the base game Bosmer zones. So it's hard to argue that the system was designed as player-friendly.
It's fine to enjoy Antiquities for being minigames that some people may find fun. It's just factually ironic to praise them for something they are not (like a good system for getting loot, or one of the greatest types of MMO gamplay). Antiquities would have been truly great if they only included tradeable cosmetic fluff, or just lore snippets. People do housing as a non-MMO minigame for their own enjoyment too, and ZOS didn't need to lock anything behind that for it to be a great addition to the game.

This for sure! I was surprised to see how much gold accumulated while repeating the blue and purple treasure digs. Blue sell to merchants for 100g and purple for 5000g.

Yes there are people who complain it is a minigame with nothing to do with an MMO. For me the benefits are twofold, I was an original tetris addict :D and my average ping is 240 on a good day. Days when ping drifts into 300 plus zone, the combat is broken enough that I can't enjoy dungeons and trials. Now I have something else to do. Collecting furnishings for my houses. ;)
