The lack of notice was almost certainly an oversight, not a change in policy. There were 15, 10, 5, and 1 minute warnings for last night's maintenance.
But... yeah. I was beginning to think I'd misread the maintenance schedule when we crept closer to maintenance without any in-game announcements.

Is it really? I hope it's fully fixed but the abrupt server takedowns are questioning previous patch 'fix'.
I know a lot of people make fun of the big bright yellow "The server is coming down for maintenance in X minutes" warnings, but some of us really rely on them. When you're focusing on combat or exploration or tracking down antiquities it is very easy to lose track of time, and I would've liked to not be right in the middle of excavating when the server shut down.
