The dramatic increase in players shows outside of these forums the real players are enjoying game and looking forward to the new chapter.

I love how people are judging the DLC based on BASE GAME CONTENT CHANGES. Even if eso loses a playerbase it is YEARS away from being shut down. I've played games that were literal ghost towns for years until they finally shut down. people just like to exaggerate to make their opinions more valid

I would be a bit more realistic here and personally I beg to differ. I am more inclined to think the pandemic forcing people to stay home over the last few months had more of an effect than the game doing dramatically better drawing in more players, etc. In March, when the pandemic restrictions were in full force worldwide, numbers started to rise. ESO saw it's highest peak players ever in April 2020 (see below). ZoS/Bethesda even stated they had major issues due to a huge influx at that time. ZoS themselves also mentioned seeing a large increase in players during April. Numbers are actually going back down to where they were prior to this now that social restrictions are in phased release. While I cannot state the console/launcher only players, we can certainly see the history for Steam users confirming this.
Steam 24H Average
- Pre March: ~15,000+ daily players
- March: ~14,000+ daily players
- April: ~28,000+ daily players (49,061 All time peak EVER in ESO)
- May: ~23,000+
I understand Steam is not the only source of players, so those numbers are surely higher. Peak players are higher than normal (that's great), but the averages are seeing a trend back down. I would think by that logic console/launcher only players are showing somewhat similar trends, it only makes sense.

I want ESO to succeed and be THE #1 MMO in the World, but even after 6 years it's just not there yet. It's a fun game, a lot of great people and community but it has a lot of shortcomings. I really believe if ZoS improved on the weak areas of the game it would solidify it a lot better and make a larger percentage of the player base happier.
Sure, people enjoy this game (myself included) and there is hype for the new chapter as always, but not to almost 2-3x the amount of normal players of every other chapter released for ESO.
Just my 2¢

Antiquities appears to be another mindless grind, and I don’t like mini-games, anyway. Nothing much else new. I have two accounts — pre-ordered it for one, but I won’t be playing Greymoor on the second account until they make it a DLC. I certainly hope next year’s new chapter has a lot more to offer...if I’m still around then.

Steam gives only half portion of the player base currently involved in the game. The rest is from their official launcher that determines players activity. So, the data you provided is in-accurate to how many have left this game.
