My Fellow AUS/SEA People - Fix for High Ping/Ping Spikes?

Not sure if this was your experience but ever since Update 24 or 25 (not sure which), my ping has been atrocious. Literally every 5 seconds, my ping indicator turns red and that is NO EXAGGERATION.

I used to use Mudfish with some success but for whatever reason, it stopped working and actually started making the ping worse. Is anyone doing anything to successfully lower or just stabilize the ping?

Most of the recent ping spikes and bad performance in general is from server side and sadly whatever we do won't fix it. That being said, there are occasional bad routing problems we usually face. Playing from Asia/Aus is literally not possible at prime time nowadays. For other times, I have tried and tested over 20 VPNs and best fix i found was IPvanish VPN.

If you're going to try it, select Germany and use a Frankfurt server and it worked best for me. I found that any VPN that uses IKEv2 protocol helps a lot more than OpenVPN protocol when it comes to ESO.

(Tried these from Aus sometime back and now I reside in Asia. these are my own findings and might not work for you as well as it did for me. so no guarantees)

Sometime you've got to beat Mudfish around the ears a bit until it behaves. The auto detection doesn't always work well, in particular when connecting to NA from Australia because it tends to want to route via Singapore. Mucking around a bit selecting nodes closer to home usually helps. That said, I've had quite reasonable connections to NA recently without it (Melb, Bigpond), so I have only used Mudfish when connecting to EU.

    Hi, all!
I have been playing the game for 4 years now (TH, Bkk)
Ping has always been here. And I kept trying to fight with it and solve this issue somehow. At first I naively asked for help from the Zos support team. Their "advice" came down to the fact that I need to update the video card or update the driver (oh, thank you once more time for your amazing advises.... :# ).
The worst time was in the summer of 2018. Ping held at the level of 880-990 ++
Then it got better (yes, yes, I call it "better") - 350-380.
Used Madfish. Never helped. I had to go to ExitLag. It's a little better. And my ping is held at around 240-280 (thanks, no longer a red indicator).
And yes, I say to the ping 230 - hooray. And yes, with this ping I am able to close HM Trials.
But often when I hear the whining of other players, “Oh, I can’t play, my ping jumped to 140 ″, I feel like a beggar at a feast, who is happy with dry moldy crust of bread.
(by the way, it is worse not the ping itself, but the loss of packets when it jumps from 240 to 300 and vice versa)
My apology for the long text.

Been 300ms give or take 50ms for a long while now since the first Akami mess, it really depends on the stability of the connection how playable it is. A vpn seems to help there but its doesn't chop off many ms.

The VPN is for establishing a secure connection over a public (unsecure) network like the internet. Since the tunnel must be formed using the same route, the same routers, the same infrastructure and such it's likely to reduce performance if anything, since now your machine must also deal with the overhead of maintaining a secure tunnel.

Even 150 miles from server location you can get over 400 ms in the game...I heard someone that lives in the same city had over 250.

The best a VPN will do is stabilise your connection. It may add or reduce a few ms, but if your issue is bad routing in the first place, it will set that straight to a degree. Otherwise as stated above, you are asking for more out of the infrastructure than you would be without one.

A combination of port forwarding and DMZ configuration seems to work the best for me (though some may freak out with blanket warnings on doing this).

Potentially lowering your MTU may also help if throughput is an issue somewhere between yourself and the ESO servers.

A gaming VPN like Mudfish gives you some control over how you're routed. Since the issue here is to avoid being routed to NA via Akamai in Hong Kong for no good reason, it can significantly improve your lag. That said, I have no idea why I've been getting tolerable (sub-300ms) lag to NA without Mudfish for a while now whereas other people are still complaining.

best thing to do is to stop playing the game / reduce play time.
this game started to lag month before the redownload patch and getting worse after the redownload patch to the point this is the worst performance we have ever get.
dont hope to high with this game.
i dont expect this problem getting resolved anytime soon.
