Jabs/Deadly combo Direct Damage Question

If Jabs is direct Damage, why is it recommended to run Deadly when Deadly only buffs Damage over Time Skills?

✭Deadly affects channel abilities(5 items) Increase the damage your Physical, Bleed, Poison, and Disease Damage over time and channeled abilities do by 20%.
