I have noticed much higher heals with spell damage versus max magicka
because stacking spell dmg is much easier compared to stacking max magicka on mag necro
Why is it easier ?
On any class really. It comes down to a few factors.
For most tooltips, this is how effective power is determined: 10.5 magicka is equal to 1 spell damage. So if you increased your spell damage by 100 or Magicka by 1050, a Magicka spammable (if following this equation) would increase by the same amount. Same goes for heals.
Now look at something like a 1-4 piece set bonus. 1094 Magicka vs 129 spell damage.
1094/10.5 = 104
This shows that Magicka built in to set bonuses already provides less "spell damage" when converted than an actual spell damage bonus provides at 24% less.
Now, think about multipliers in the game. For Magicka, they're pretty close to even.
Spell Damage has major/minor sorcery for +30% and some classes have unique bonuses like sorcs for +2% per skill slotted.
You may get 20-36% depending on the circumstances from above. 30% is easy to obtain at 100% uptime in a group.
Magicka has cp for +20% (when you hit cp 300), it has Warhorn for +10%, it has mages guild for +2% per skill slotted and +5% from inner light. Some classes have unique bonuses like mag sorcs and nb.
You may get 20-40% depending on the circumstances from above. War horn will never really be up 100% of the time, but 20% from CP can.
For Magicka builds, multipliers are much more of an even split between the 2, which makes sense since there is many Magicka based skills that actually ONLY scale on max Magicka, instead of spell damage. A few being sorcs twilight matriarch and templars purifying light and all Magicka shields.
For stamina builds, weapon damage multipliers beat out max stamina with much less abilities that only scale on max stamina. The only ones I can remember is templars potl and sorcs clanfear.
Same comparison as above, except medium armor gives +15% weapon damage and fighters guild gives +2% per skill slotted.
The only bonus to max stamina is available through Stam Sorc for +8%
For stamina builds, weapon damage can easily get to +45-51% while stamina tops out at 20-30%.
