Depends on the game. I played GW2 for years without a single downtime. Everything happens while they keep their servers up.
Yeah, but the first time the game told me a new build was available, I was looking for a safe place to log out for a few hours. It took me completely by surprise when I discovered how it works there. Of course, the issue is that they designed their engine for that kind of thing from the start, not sure why other companies don't, maybe there's a patent?

Yes, yes they did.
And everyone knows that nothing ever glitches, or crashes when working with computers and programming, and it all works perfectly every time. No maintenance has ever gone over the estimate someone came up with before they started the work. /sarcasm
They are much better off NOT giving an estimated time.1 -

✭Everything was taken down. Wildly speculating but an event for this week may have also been uploaded to all servers. Players are still missing two Indrik berries for 2nd quarter0 -

Funny thing about Destiny 2 was that the Destiny server itself never went down, even for updates, but the Blizzard account system did every week like clockwork. I quit playing for other reasons, but i bet it has very little downtime now on Steam.0 -

✭Pure speculation of course, My money is on they’ve found something gamebreaking, which is why all platforms are affected
Otherwise the pc platforms would be up before console or indeed vice versa
(Unless you are saying the pc and console servers are the same - which I doubt)
This isn’t standard stuff. There’s something afoot

I usually count on around 10 hours for a major 6 hour maintenance. It always gets delayed and there's usually a hot fix that comes out a day later."We have found a cave, but I don't think there are warm fires and friendly faces inside."0 -
I personally believe in maintenance time they all just chill out have another coffee slice of cake etc due to the stress of continually having to re-knit code and trying not to drop any more stitches.0 -

✭For the record, my annoyance and complaint is about maintenance running overdue. It's life, *** happens. It's the fact that we're now 30 minutes past and zero communication here, or twitter or anywhere actually.
Just acknowledge that it's running into overtime and give us an estimate of how long it'll take, or even an 'we don't know how long, we'll get back to you when we do'.0 -
