Should bank items be removed from the crafting process and the lock UI improved? What do you think?

Alexeus
Alexeus
I want to start off by saying that i am new to this game, been playing it for 1 and a half months and so far i really really enjoy it!

Having that said, i am still discovering mechanics and UI perks, so i will be talking from the perspective of a newcomer and how it affects people who are not familiarized with this particular UI.

So, I finally made a second set for myself with the sole purpose of PVP yesterday and of course i placed it in the bank for now, for safe keeping.

Today, as I logged on my main on which i am trying to level jewelry I was very happy to find out when trying to deconstruct things that i had quite a few items. Joke was on me though, as it turned out 3 of those items were the jewelry i spent 100k on the other day.

That is quite some money for a new player.

Of course, i searched the internet and found out there is a lock function if you right click an item, but previous to that i had no idea about that function. In some other games this lock is right next to the item name as is very intuitive to click on. Even a newb such as myself can find it and figure out what it does. Couldn't this be implemented in our game?

And my second question to you is... Should bank items be removed from the crafting tabs? I mean i use a BANK for SAFE keeping, that is its purpose.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this and maybe even an official response!

Thank you!

You must truly be new here :D

Bank is usually not used for safe keeping but for character independent access to your belongings, for example you do your dailies on your 15 alts and then log onto your main crafter to sell/deconstruct/grab writs etc.

The UI in ESO is extremely bad designed and its main purpose is to hide stuff from the players (especially combat and mechanic wise) or make every task a tedious time-consuming job to force you to spend more time on the game (like they have achieved now by forcing you to rebuy your stuff).

For your specific issue, make it a habit to immediately lock stuff you do not want to destroy and use some addon to have a better experience saving items like ItemSaver.

    Absolutely not.
Inventory management hell in this game is very real - no need to make it even worse by crippling its existing, essential features.

As for the lock function, it's there for a reason.
Anything you want to keep, lock it as soon as you can. Once locked, it disappears from the deconstruction interface.

If you want to remove items from the crafting table without using the lock function, put them in a storage chest. Those are accessible in any home in which they've been placed for all your characters, like a slightly less convenient bank.

Since there are already two options to prevent gear from showing up as a deconstruction option, I don't think changes to the bank are needed. And yes, I've deconned stuff I didn't mean to because I wasn't paying attention to what I was clicking and hadn't locked it. Live and learn, that's my approach.

LOCK any item you do not want to sell or decon. You can LOCK the item by right clicking on it and selecting LOCK.

Items in the bank for deconning/improving is a must. It removes several lengthy steps we use to have to go through to either decon/sell or improve something in our Bank. LOCK was added to prevent accidental deconning/selling no matter the location of said items.

Welcome to ESO. I think most of us have accidentally deconned/sold something over the years.

    Have fun!

Ironically, I find them better than a bank, because I can fast travel to them from anywhere, for free. On an "every so often" basis, where that's really flexible, I pull things like treasure maps out and go collect the loot to clear out the chests, but other than that, it's really convenient for things like XP scrolls and the like, so I can fill my bank up with stuff to deconstruct.

Oof sorry OP, that’s a hard way to find out about the lock function. It could be more intuitive (with a lock icon next to it) or at least provide a tutorial pop up on your first purple piece.

I’ve heard of a very few number of people who got their stuff back when they submitted a ticket and asked nicely. Explain how new you are and how much money you’re likeLy to spend lol

    Thank you for your answers!

Yes, it seems the hard way is the best way to learn, I will never leave an item unlocked from now.

Hopefuly though, the lock thing could be made more obvious.

It helps to read the items carefully when deconning and not just rush through it.

I don't understand why you would remove it from the character. Especially if its something you want to make sure you don't accidentally deconstruct. You can expand your inventory with gold from the bag vendor and by spending gold to increase mount capacity at the stables.

Congratulations in farming 100k gold in a month play. That's a great start.

You lost the money, but you can generate that amount in about 4 hours farming Max level mats.

Just get to cp160 then money will be easy.

Jc is a bad early investment. Get the other six professions to 50 and do daily writs.

The lock icon is pretty obvious AFTER it has been locked. There is no unlocked icon. Which is the point that I believe the OP is trying to get across.

Shouldn't be too hard for them to add an unlocked icon on all items. If they make it so clicking it has the same effect as right clicking and selecting lock, that would be the gravy on top.

That's like having icon for already researched traits. No, thanks. There's already enough stuff on the UI.
Just slow down, pay attention and (oh, horror!) take some time to explore UI if you are new
