Werewolf questions... (pve)

Ok, never played as such so decided to give it go and see what its all about. Quick question though...why is there such a stigma surrounding playing one. Seems like as soon as you transform people cringe and think your dps is going to be crap or whatever. Now, its not, stuff dies, fast, and I am not doing the crazy thing and trying to tank as one. Now, I am aware that some videos have popped up in regards to WW tanking but even ZOS has stated its not what they want the class/skill to do. Will that stop people from trying, of course not. But on the whole a WW tank just isn't "viable" (theres that v word) and that's not what I am asking anyways.
DPS.....now, with Greymour it looks like wolfies will see some love and that's cool since they are sort of tied in with the new content with Vamps. Not as featured but still looking good.
So, is it a stupid silly choice to give it a go and risk being laughed out of runs and such or are there many others who are waiting with baited (doggy) breath to play something different AND powerful?
I for one am hoping they are accepted and the damage stays up there, makes for a much more diverse game play!!

Nothing about stigma, they are just a bit weaker (relatively) personally I wait and see, because I have seen wws that did more dmg than the average pug. Would never touch dogs myself though, not a fan of spamming light attacks.

Many of the werewolf complaints for pve come from a place of bitterness in the endgame community. they feel werewolves don't deserve any amount of credibility because of our nature to pump out light attack damage.

you can say "I did 50k dps on the boss" and you might as well be talking to a wall and they'll just come back with "werewolves don't bring any group utility" "werewolves don't do enough AoE damage" "werewolves aren't viable in endgame trials"

my advice is play with a pack, play with a guild, play with anyone other than the random elitists that can't stand the thought of werewolves. it is so much better when you're in a community that knows the value of a solid werewolf dps

Well I don't run with any sort of elitists, that's for sure. And yea, kinda sad that such a decent damage dealing classline has no love. ;)

I've played a lot of werewolf characters and reluctantly abandoned them when last year's nerfs made them nonviable. There is a stigma, and to some extent it's deserved. It has been earned over the years because WW just wasn't designed to play well with others. It's not simply the lack of group utility. It's also WWs being forced to lag behind to eat a corpse, then choosing to rush ahead and mess up the NPCs before the tank arrives. It's being forced into builds that make for a weaker normal form, then losing WW form (and efficacy) as a player picks a lock on a chest, an NPC talks too long, the group waits for the next DSA round, etc... It's going to rez a party member and finding you have to eat them first (have they ever fixed that?).

All this to say, while I used to run an awful lot of content as a WW, I cringe and expect a bad group experience when someone in a PUG transforms.

But with the proposed changes any hope they will be "better"?

    PvE perspective:
There is always hope. The new werewolf seems weaker than it was a year ago, but stronger than it currently is on live (with the caveat that I did just one partial, solo run through vet Spindleclutch 2 before writing it off for serious solo use). To me it reads like one of the "Good news, Bad news" stories" I loved in elementary school.

The good news is: it could have some group utility now,
but the bad news is: it appears to be bugged,
but the good news is: they know about the bug(s),
but the bad news is: WW (and so much else) goes a long time before bugs get fixed,
but the good news is it has a rotation now,
but the bad news is: this doesn't change a whole lot in non-idealized conditions
    but....

In short, my first impression is that WW is still not designed to play well with others. It has solidified it's position as an option for those whose ping, skill level, or inclination favors an easy-to-play build. But, it still looks like a dead end for most players who want to progress into more organized groups that tackle more difficult content.

For those interested in soloing group content, it may be viable with sets that proc self heals, but otherwise, the heal just costs too much. Running Tri-pots vs Weapon power is nice, but again, just not enough to compete with non-transforming builds.

Now that I can get my head around!! ;)
