How do you feel about having to have all of your characters in the same guild?

Im just curious to know how you all feel about this. I personally would love to choose what characters i have in each guild. For example id like to have my ep character in an ep specific pvp guild and my farmer and trader in a big trading guild. Having all my characters in one guild kinda makes me feel uncomfortable.

Also I'd like to have some characters i solo on and yes i know i can go offline while i play but that in itself has its issues.
I know there could be negatives too with this but personally id love the freedom of choice.

Edit[: I don't understand some of the harsh comments since I just asked for personal opinions I didn't ask ZOS to please change the system. Also, someone mentioned that in wow you could just have one guild well that is incorrect cos you could have one character in each guild so if you had 7 characters or whatever number you could still have seven guilds with only one of your characters in them. I prefer that system myself.

And going offline is not an option cos you have to set your status to offline each time you log into one of your many characters and that imo is a pain. I'm glad for those of you who love this eso guild system but I do not.

Why would you want different guilds for different characters? It is not like the players you are interacting with should be different.

heck, there are 18 character slots, different guild for each character? Hell no. If you don't want to be bothered turn yourself invisible, and create a don't disturb chat tab.

Or create chat tab for each character that ignores specific guilds.

Turn the chats for specific guilds off on the characters you feel "uncomfortable" with having in that guild. Turn them all off for your solo characters. I dont really see what the issue is here. Unless you are searching for a way to circumvent the 5 guild limit, which isnt going to happen.

I understand the appeal for role-playing guilds, but for me I'm happy that I don't have to manually add all the same guilds on all characters, because I wouldn't want them to be different.

I'm also not sure why you feel you have to play in offline mode to do things solo. Are you in a guild that requires you to play as a group at all times? If so, and you don't like doing that but they're not willing to make an exception why not find a different guild?

Separate guilds for separate characters is pretty normal for games where you only have one guild for a character. And don't need guilds to trade. And they're smaller, and faction-restricted. Etc. You know, a standard MMO guild system. /shrug

You can be in 5 guilds, and many guilds have specific requirements that have to be met. 5 guilds is way more than enough guilds to belong to, if you want to belong to more different guilds then just make another account.

But try managing being in more than 5, yeah, soon you will realize the folly of your imagination.

It is not a big deal. Actually, it works well since if someone needs to get in touch with you they can. If you do not want to be seen you can mark yourself as offline.

With 5 guilds if you want an EP guild for your EP characters, join an EP guild.

So much better than a one character-one guild design.

“Ok, I just need to list this gold Elf Bane Inferno staff in the guild store real quick. Oh yah, I have to be on my DK to use the Rawl store”.

And the related “Why are our sales and raffle entries so low even though the roster is still full?”

“Because it’s just the same players over and over on different toons.”

I am the full opposite of the OP. For me guilds are community for me as a player. Not only do I not want different guilds for each character, I have three guilds I’m in with both of my accounts, for social continuity. And I have about a dozen friends from NA who are also in my EU guilds. My gameplay is at the character level, interpersonal socialization is for me.

You can make a second account. You get the other region server (NA/EU) for free, and share ESO+ but not any crown items. Having a second account in the same server's gonna cost you ESO+ for it, but then you get a fresh start.

My initial response would be .... huh ??

You mention what you want to see, and what you would like to do, but you never really say Why you want these things. Games generally do not change their rules because an individual feels ' uncomfortable' about something.

Looking at the big picture, which can loosely be shown as the Needs of the Many, the current system works fine. Guilds in this game have a different purpose than guilds of other games. There a necessity to join a guild if you want to sell anything. Only allowing the specific character that initially 'joined' the guild to do your buying and selling is bad for the game. The majority of players would not like it.

I have no idea what you are going on about with 'soloing' either. You can have a character 'solo' anytime you want. No idea why you were advised to set up an account on another server. Set up a second account on the Same server. Its no big deal. I have a second account. You still have to buy the game for that account, but it's already installed, so you save that download/install time. If you don't want to start a new character with the CPs earned on the account, just don't spend them.

    IMHO

    I wish.

When I started the game I was severely disappointed that everything was account based.

I wish my healer/crafter was in 5 guilds and my sneaky thief was in none. Some characters I create to be alone. I know I can set myself as “do not disturb” in guild but that just opens up hard feelings. I don’t want to set myself to “offline” because then I can’t receive whispers when I’m out in the world.

I’ve gotten used to it now but I wish it was different. As a mitigation method I keep my friends list empty. I don’t want to see you logging through 10 crafting alts and I don’t want you to see me doing the same.

Having all characters in the same guild is not an problem then you have 5 guilds.
Know that in WOW you could have characters in different guilds but you could only join one.

Coming from LOTRO and SWTOR, having guilds tied to my account instead of each character separately was very, very awkward at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. It makes more sense for ESO. The only thing I wish they'd change is let us set our social status on the character screen so I can 'appear offline' before I log in, not after.

I had different characters in different guilds a lot, where I could only be in one guild at a time. Sometimes, there was even a lot of overlap. One guild for the equivalent of overland goofing off, one for dungeon parties, one for dungeon sieges, etc. In Aion we had a rifting legion, that either fought rifters off, or went rifting, and one Legion for everything else.

In regard to the OP, I'm sort of torn on it. On the one hand, it makes dealing with all my alts, once that becomes an issue, and it will, easier. I don't have to have x toons invited, as they are already in once I join a guild. On the other, I sometimes want to just be antisocial. Perhaps it's down to "my migraine is especially bad today, but I want to do something to literally "get out of my head", and not have to worry about offending someone if they say something that sets me off into a tirade that's nobody's fault but my migraine. I may well spend a day like that just doing overland sky shards/lore books, or poking people with the Blade of Woe, or stealing everything that's not nailed down.

No thanks, I don't need more characters specific stuff. It would be super annoying to join trading guild on every char/relog every time I want to put something on sale.
If you don't wanna see chat, you can just disable it on certain characters.

You know, it's interesting. I don't mind having an Inspect Player option in a game (which, in threads this past month, apparently triggers OMG MY PRIVACY! in a lot of players)... but I utterly avoid having anyone on "friends" lists. Because the whole "Big Brother is watching you" aspect of them seeing when you log in/log out/etc just creeps me out. :#

That's why it's nice to have things not have account-wide guilds/friends/etc. Because even if one of your characters ends up in a guild or on someones list, you can just log in to one of your other characters when you're feeling anti-social (i.e, most of the time.)

edit: and yeah, I don't guild either. Partially because of the not wanting to be tracked thing, and partially because - I want my playtime to be my own. If I'm going to commit to a group of companions, I'll be beholden to them - helping them if they need it, spending my effort to support the group, etc. My playime wouldn't be mine. (and that's why I can't understand this whole "5 guilds of 500 people" thing... how can you possibly know all the members of even one of your guilds, let alone all of them? It's just too many - it's not a tight-knit organization of friends, but rather a giant crowd of random people. Like trying to say you're "friends" with everyone in your highschool, or all those dozens of "followers" on Facebook or Twitter. You can barely even be passing acquaintances with many of them. Seems wrong.)

I think it's good design. It saves us the trouble of having to get additional toons invited and makes guild management easier. For trade guilds that require dues, it'd be a lot harder to accurately assess their standing with effectively duplicate members. I'm in three guilds, one of which I'm socially invested in, the others are purely for trading. Given that guilds are such an essential economic institution, this design serves them well.
