Crafted sets for mag templar?

Hey there! I put this in crafting because I need advice on some CRAFTED sets. I know that there are other sets that are better, but this is for a player just starting out who has to farm those better sets. Let me explain.

I'm a 9-trait crafter; my SO is not. He has a mag templar that is his second character to make it to level 50. He's in that position where he is fairly high CP (459) but doesn't have everything leveled up because he's inheriting the CP level from his first character.

He plays mostly PvE but also enjoys PvP. I think I need to make him multiple sets to start with. He needs one for overland PvE and beginning to run dungeons and trials as a DPS. He also has interest in being a healer. He needs something else for his time in PvP land. He currently uses a front bar inferno staff and a back bar restoration staff. So my question is, what should I MAKE him right now to get him started on the right foot?

*I know there are lots of dungeon/trial sets and monster sets that are better than crafted, and most people would be inclined to say "get a grothdarr monster set with some BSW..." (Just randoms picked off the top of my head; don't know if they would work together) Yes, he will get to that. But now I need to CRAFT him something that will help him be successful in farming for better gear.*

All the guides I can find online are out of date or include farmed gear. I just need am idea of what to craft him to get him started. Please, don't advise me about dungeon or trial sets. Again, that will come later.

Looking forward to your help. Thank you.

You should craft one 5-piece damage set plus one 5-piece max magicka support set, @LadySinflower.

The flavor of the month for crafted magicka damage 5-piece is New Moon Acolyte ... though you can also get by with Julianos. That should be the core set for weapons and jewelry. Hopefully, you can craft 9-trait jewelry.

The support set should emphasize max magicka ... as well as having extra impenetrable pieces to swap in for PvP. Kagrenac’s, Seducer, and Shackle can all help in this regard.

PvP players usually start out in heavy armor and then move to light armor after attaining quite a few PvP ranks ... your SO should have an idea of what armor works best for their playstyle.

Spell damage, max magicka, and spell crit all cross over into healing by the way (emphasis on max magicka and spell damage as the top priorities).

Don’t forget resistances in your SO’s build. You can gain some spell, physical, and crit resist through CP ... but not enough to ensure a good PvP experience.
