Are you using one of these payments? All ESO Plus™ memberships are recurring except for purchases using iDeal, WebMoney, PaySafeCard, Qiwi, Yandex, and Giropay. You may return to "Manage Membership" at any time to change your membership settings

When you sign up for ESO+, or renew ESO+, you are automatically set up for recurring payments.

You have to cancel your membership in your settings to turn this off. Cancelling membership does NOT cancel ESO+ time that you already paid for, just stops the automatic payment. It's misleading.

And yes, this is absolutely shady — ZOS isn't the only company that does this. I have to cancel my membership every time I buy more ESO+ time.

Edit: To be clear: When you pay for 1 year of ESO+, you are technically signing up as a member with a yearly payment plan. You will be charged immediately when your year is up—without being asked, prompted, or informed ahead of time. Unless you cancel automatic payments.

    Ok..let me be clear.

I cancelled my ESO+ membership just so I could change my payment method. That is what is required..1st complete [snip] on ESO's part.

Secondly, I am completely amazed at the audacity of ESO to run me through all kinds of trial and error to accomplish this. I am trying to renew for a year....[snip]

And yet, I did it. I jumped through every ******* hoop they threw at me. (Call my credit card company, changed browsers, changed computers)I am so disgusted by the arrogance of this company. They throw out a defense of "our problem" is "your problem"..you fix it. EVERY SINGLE TIME WITHOUT EXCEPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope to god they read this. Nothing but silence so far from "customer service".

Every time I have opened up a "ticket", they run me through a complete waste of time, jumping through hoops. ESO....[snip]

Good game, you guys completely massively, epically fail at customer service. You are the epitome of customer disservice.

Are you kidding me? I want to PAY YOU for a year of gameplay....[snip]

Am I clear enough for you? [snip]

We all live in the same world and on a daily basis we are doing our shopping and making purchases on-line. This is ABC's....And you are telling me to do this..and that, to see if my payment will go through. What in the name of all that is good is wrong with you at ESO????

    Get it fixed...[snip]

And don't even bother asking me one more time to jump through some hoop.

Was that clear? Any more questions?

Now, for everyone else, my question was, Is anyone else having trouble setting up recurring payments for ESO+?

Sorry to all the good folks for my rant, [snip]

haven't needed to set up a sub for years. I use paypal to buy credits. I don't understand 'all the hoops'

used to be - select option (monthly, yearly, century, whatever), then your address screen - continue, then payment type, then card info, enter

    poof - accepted

occasionally my card got hung up, so I went to paypal instead of using a credit card when it asked for payment type. never had a problem with it since

I was also thinking that you were using one of the ones that did not do recurring payments, since that seemed to be the focus of your situation. I assume you are purchasing this directly from the account page and not Steam, PSN, or XBox.

Honestly, I don't know why they make the player cancel the subscription and create a new one to change the term length. It is just a countdown timer and nothing happens until the renewal date, anyway. They could change the terms of the next subscription without the player hassle.

Anyway, I have gone through this a couple times over the years. Aside from my browser blocking third party payment site, which was my fault because I forgot to allow that, I have not had any problems.

Sadly, I can't think of anything you can do to fix this on your own, so hopefully they find the time to help. I can't say that I am that impressed with the Bethesda customer support on good days, and these are not good days.

My renewal date is 5/4. Got a message yesterday, 5-1, that my payment could not be processed. my credit card had been updated so I went to enter the new info. Like you I had to hit cancel in order to do that. Was an easy thing though. Cancel. Add new 12 month sub with new CC info. Boom, renewed again. While it does seem that it would be a tad easier to just let me update my payment info this was just a very minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things. We are all facing bigger issues in game and out right now.

    Nope. Not clear.
The only thing that IS clear, is that you need to step away from the computer for awhile.

I have no idea what you are flipping out about, because you haven't actually said what the problem is.
Not that you should try to describe it, after that tirade. We don't need any more of that display.

There is nothing complicated about doing what you are trying to do. I've changed my card on file twice since 2018 with no issue.
You should be able to end your subscription on one card (which won't actually end until the end of the term for which you've already been charged), then place a new order consisting of whatever term-length you want using the new card. That new order won't actually start until after the amount of time remaining on your first order has passed.

(e.g., if, for example, you have thirteen days remaining, as of today, on the subscription you are ending, the subscription under the new card won't start until 14 days from now.)

And whatever issue you ARE having isn't something that ZOS has done to you.
It is a third-party payment processing company that actually handles your payment.

No? You are informed when you make your purchase that it will automatically update. There's nothing shady about it, shady would be not telling you that it will, and then doing it. If I'm just going to pay for a month, I pay it, and then immediately cancel it, so it won't recur. I'm sure that that's what a lot of other players do, if not most or all of them, if they're not planning on staying subbed for more than x amount of time. There's nothing shady about collecting a payment that you authorized them to collect, however.
