Guilds who spam

While i have seen some threads about people who send mail to their guild members getting social banned for just trying to communicate with guild members and wondering why, what i havent seen seen are posts about the other forms of guilds spamming their members and so that's what this post is for.

The number one way i see guilds spamming member is with the message of the day. Specifically, when it is there every day for every toon and the substance of the message is essentially the same. This is especially true for members who have multiple accounts with 9 or more toons on each account and each account belongs to the same guilds that are constantly updating the message of the day but essentially NOT changing the message. Under these circumstances, the guild is, in my opinion, spamming its members.

Yes i understand you wish to communicate with your guild members but frankly, it's a turn off to have an updated message of the day everyday and I'm NOT GOING TO READ IT. Either i will ignore the notices all together or just delete them without having read them. If your desire was to communicate with your guild members, well sorry, you are having the opposite effect because at least this guild member is blowing them off AND is quietly annoyed with you. Speaking for the sake of speaking just inclines people to tune you out.

Are the ones being constantly updated have raffles posted in them? As a GM myself, I try to limit the number of times I update MOTD, but if there is a raffle running at the time that either lists what the current 50/50 jackpot is or has a certain limited number of tickets, you're expected to keep that updated so that people know how many raffle tickets are left (450/500 sold, etc).

I do it in batches, after several ticket orders have come in, so that it isn't every 5 minutes, which is obnoxious.

But that's probably reason number one for a MOTD to be frequently updated. And as a console peasant, I have no other way to communicate these things to everyone in the guild as not all of them are on Discord and I have no add-ons to allow me to bulk email or in-game mail all 500 members. So, MOTD it is.

At least ZOS finally removed the dinging sound that used to accompany updated MOTD's. Much easier to simply ignore that way. And GMs have ZERO control over it being updated for each of your characters you log - sorry, but that's 100% out of our hands unless we just never update MOTD ever again and, therefore, never communicate anything to the guild ever.

Getting the same message on characters from different accounts does not constitute spam. While you can certainly tell you're on a different account, the guild message has no way to know. It sees a new character log in, and shoots it's message, which is working as intended. This isn't a game design problem, or a guild problem, but a self created problem.

I just delete them when I log in.

But what I find annoying are all the people in Chat spamming their guilds for others to join. And we have those guilds or members of guilds constantly spamming "We will carry you through Vet HM XXX Trial!" and then listing all the achievements in the same SPAM message. Sometimes they put the cost of these carry's, usually not. It's like getting garbage mail in your mailbox every day. It is non stop.

My Ignore list has grown. ZOS should make the Ignore list more than 100.

What bugs me is the guilds where the officers feel they need to send there chat messages in all CAPS.
Not much of a problem now, I just leave those guilds and try another. To bad for them cause I am a generous donator.

These people promoting their guilds has become almost unbearable. Over and over again with the same message on how great they are. But, the real spammers would be:

"WTS Perfect Roe" or whatever they have in their inventory OVER, AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN in the zone chat. STOP. PLEASE. And, now I see they are yelling this.

So here's the thing. Guilds have stuff going on that many members want to know about. Raffles, group activities, etc. When you get notified of an update to your guild's MOTD, Surprise! You don't have to read it. Use your delete key.

Also the zone lowballers who post a paragraph of items they are looking for and offering to COD pennies on the dollar of their actual recognized value.

No it doesnt because i donate 5k every week to every guild on top of any sales i might do (including my own little guild)

I'm lost at this one. On PS4 we only get one single notification when we login - and even then, it's hardly affecting anything to either ignore, or delete without reading. Maybe on PC it must be doing something different that annoys you?? Not sure...

However... it is "Message of the.... DAY" - so probably is going to be updated on a daily basis. My guild we used to put up the daily undaunteds... but now we run like 20+ trials/events per week, so we have that fully listed on Discord, but can't fit it in the Message of the Day, so therefore we have to delete daily what has already happened, and add what is coming up on instead

It's all part of being in a guild though. If you are just a name on a roster, what is the point?? Just for the trader??

There are a couple of things you could do though...

1. Request Zenimax to give a disable notifications option.
2. Request Zenimax for an auction house so you can go solo and not join guilds just for traders
3. Leave your guilds that do this, or leave all guilds to prevent it in the future.

I understand no.3 might seem harsh, but I couldn't think of any other solutions lol. Because Guilds who are active are going to want to interact with their members ... it's kind of the whole point of having guilds and guildmates

on pc we get one every time we change characters. The one guild i run there's a guy with 3 accounts (or is it 4) and he has at least 27 toons over all 3 accounts. That means he has to deal with 27 toons x 5 guilds for messages of the day... just as an example...

I have five accounts with somewhere north of 64 characters and don’t observe this spamming mentioned. I had no issues whatsoever when loading every character for crafting writs daily over the last event.

If the message of the day has been updated, it’s easy enough to delete it once per account and it does not appear in the notifications of other characters loaded after. Does it work differently for other people?

It’s possible one of my addons is stealth dealing with this, but I don’t remember ever having issues like this for the past five years playing.

It could be not guild error, it can be some addons error. I've got such spam, but not on all characters, only on 3 or 4 with different addons set

This is how it works for me as well.

I've noticed I'll sometimes get the message again if I have the profanity filter on a character because some phrase triggered the filter even if it wasn't bad. But that's just my reminder to turn it off on that character.
