Usability of Skill Morphs

Intuitively, it feels like the aim of having 2 morphs for each skill is to encourage differentiation in play-style and builds. However, if examined and thought about closely, it doesn't quite fit the premise.

The limitation of 5+1 skill-slots is the actual user-constraint that leads to differentiation in combinations and builds; the size of the selection pool regarding those skills, do not. At best, the forced selection of one morph over another provides a convenience barrier (since you must go to an alter to change); at worst, it's just an unimaginative gold-sink.

Let's consider:

- ZoS wishes to encourage engagement-specific play adaptation; meaning, have players consider the situation and prepare load-outs accordingly.
- ZoS wishes to encouraged counter-play: reacting and adapting play-styles based on difficulties met.
- You can't change skills during combat.

This raises the question, why not allow players to have both morphs unlocked but constrain the usage to be mutually exclusive? (I.e.: you can't use both morphs at the same time).

Choosing between morphs is part of the strategy and part of theorycrafting, @Tethalion ... so I don't think this is a good idea.

Pretty sure ZOS would say the same thing.

If you're having trouble with your builds, I recommend asking the forums community or taking advantage of some of the theorycrafting tools that are out there ... such as the UESP build editor: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/UESPWiki:EsoBuildEditor

It's only 50 gold per skill to change at the respec shrine. I think you're overselling the gold sink in an effort to support your argument.

I agree with OP. There are several instances where different skill morphs are entirely different skills that fulfill different purposes.

For example, Dark Flare is almost exclusively a PvP skill and Solar Barrage is most often used in PvE. Well what about those of use who play both? I'd like to have Dark Flare available when I PvP and Solar Barrage for PvE DPS.

Same with Silver Shards/Leash, Falcon's Swiftness morphs, Impaling Shards morphs, etc etc

Choosing between morphs is, indeed, part of strategy and theorycrafting. However, having both morphs unlocked do not interfere with that process. The only difference between having them both unlocked and having only one unlocked is a trip to the respec shrine.

It would only be an issue if both morphs are allowed to be used at the same time, which is why OP states for the morphs to be mutually exclusive.

You doing away with the respec gold sink might raise some eyebrows at ZOS ... I'll let you lead that discussion.

This is the important part of post.

    1. It is a gold sink
    2. They sell respec scrools.
You can adapt very fast at base if you have what they sell. Not a huge issue for me unlike mytical with p2w power level.
