New Character and Housing Questions

I stopped playing in 2016 and just downloaded the game again yesterday. Pretty excited about all of the new content and changes. :) I have a few questions about housing.

If I am awarded the freebie apartment or purchase a home in the AD can any of my other faction characters access the home?

If I create a new player in Daggerfall can they somehow access the apartment or home in the AD? I seem to remember you could not access other factions until you completed all of the main quests in your characters faction. Not sure if it is still this way.

Thanks!! :)

All houses are account wide, regardless of faction.

Yes that's changed. If you want all the details look up the update - it was called One Tamriel. But the important part is that they've removed virtually all the restrictions on where you can go and when. All characters can now move freely between all Alliances (either via boats or by using wayshrines - a small selection of which are unlocked automatically) and also all alliances share the same copies of the maps, so you can play together with people from all 3 alliances instead of being restricted to just yours. There's also no level restrictions on maps - everything is scaled to level 50, 160 CP, so you can go through them in any order you choose.

As for homes yes all your characters can access them, and they all get the same copy of it (so if you place furnishings with one character they'll appear for all your others too). You can either travel to the location and got through the front door, use the map icon to teleport there or find it in the list in your Collections menu and pick 'Travel to House'.

(Incidentally you can also unlock all the free inn rooms if you want, but each character can only unlock one for free, so you'll need multiple characters to get them all, or you can buy them for a small amount of gold.)

    Hi,

Each individual character can do the "free housing" quest only once. Once that "house" is unlocked, all other characters on the account can use it.

If you buy/have access to other DLC/chapters, the ones that have apartments/houses will allow ONE character that has NOT yet done "the housing quest" to do so, and unlock a house in that zone. So be careful not to "waste" any character's housing quests by duplicating them.

Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket

Cyrodiil remains the same tho. You can only play in your faction. Would be chaos if you you could play in other factions!

Totally agree, if you don't have several alts. If you have enough alts, get all the free inn rooms, obviously, because you never know when you might want a free port home. But, yeah, if you only have one character or just a couple of alts, I would definitely not put this one high on the list.

I have decorated it as a small apothecary shop, its close to wayshrine and most importantly... you can create a character, skip tutorial and pick up the house, to delete that character to make space for more alts. for free! so why in a world not?

The trick to get all of the tiny houses is to use the house task from the crown store, obtain the house and enter it, then use the task again and repeat until you have all of them.

It is important to enter the house before getting the task again , then you will get a different house.

That inn room is a nuisance any time I have to look at it - it shows that ZOS is incapable of being simply generous, to even offer such a tiny useless room is an insult to me. [snip]. Would it have been that bad to give it a bit more space?- it is instanced anyway, so no excuse for not doing it, beside having a really greedy nature, even when trying to be generous. [snip].

The Mara's Kiss room is difficult to decorate because it's not only tiny, it's also everything but rect/angular. I managed to fit a bed in but it's partially sunk in the wall (fortunately that's not very visible due to the type of bed). Yes, it's a tiny, ugly room - but it's free and in a well-populated area, so there's no reason to not get it IMO.

I got all 3 inn rooms when housing was first added, just because I had more than 3 characters so I thought I might as well. I don't use the Mara's Kiss one any more (but mainly because my crafter moved from Auridon to Alinor) but it still comes in useful as a quick, free wayshrine to a city.

It gets a little goofy Story Wise. You have to do the Main Quest, obviously. But, you still have to do the 5th Zone Story Quests to get invited to go to Coldharbor*. Of course, you can just show up to Coldharbor and do that content, but you won't get invited to go talk to Molag Bal until you have done all the Pre-Requisites.

So, yes, you can move around between zones and do whatever content you want in any order you want. But, it is still best to follow the original flow of the game (your Alliance Zone Story Quests/Main Quest, Coldharbor, Final Part of Main Quest) if you care about the Main Quest story line.

*This may have been fixed, but you can kind of just do the last few quests in the 5th zone to get the Messages Across Tamriel that will send you on to Coldharbor and the final stages of the Main Quest (assuming you have done the earlier stages of the Main Quest).

You simply do the preview and buy it while being in the room - they are 3000 gold iirc.

They're not in the crown store and can't be bought with crowns but if you go to the inn and preview the room you get the option to buy them for gold. (I think it's 3k each, but I'm not sure if they're all the same.)
