"Dead zones" in Cyrodiil

Since the last update I, and everyone I play with, have been running into areas on the map where our characters simply freeze. We remain in chat with the group, but our screen is frozen to ourselves, and to those still playing your character appears to simply come to a dead stop. We have been calling them "dead zones", and when one or more (usually more) members of our group hits one we call them out so that the others behind can adjust course, and go around. They appear to be in relatively predictable locations such that if I have hit one a couple times in one spot on the map, I simply start adjusting my route to that objective. I'm just curious, since I have not seen much discussion of them here, are other players experiencing them on all servers? Perhaps I just missed the other threads on them among the other myriad threads detailing other performance issues recently?

    I must say, I agree that this game does have its problems, but I do not experience half of the crap people bring up on the forums.

    im a fairly new player and i hit my first one last night after two weeks of playing. everyone in my group just stopped, and at first i thought they were afk then they all went offline and i realized i was in one of those dead zones everyone talks about.

    so yes i can confirm this is in fact happening. I suspect its something to do with the way things are rendered or seeded in the loading process, which according to performance updates log shows to be on track to be fixed next patch.

    Happened to me 3 times tonight. Very strange.
    So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

    Yup there are. There's also "mini loadscreens" as the loadscreens flickers when you enter certain parts of the map, like around Bruma and the rest of the snowy north area. It's like when you capture a keep and get a loadscreen for a little bit then it goes away. It's different from the loadscreen into a crash when huge zergs show up or the infinite loadscreens from using transitus shrines or randomly when the game just closes itself because it has horrible performance.

    You mean the "stuck on textures" bug? Where the ground in front of your character looks like soup, because the area hasn't been loaded into memory yet?

    Yeah, that's extremely common.
    On PC-EU I was running into that crap constantly, at least 5-10 times per day. On PC-NA it seems much less common, but it did also happen to me there already.

    There seems to some consistency in these areas, there’s a spot in between glademist and aleswell from the top of my head.

    I've seen such a zone happen on Nikel outpost and the AD managed to take advantage of it.Just suddenly everything stopped, I got disconnected, and when I log back in I'm surrounded by my allies and the AD are just galloping by us to attack Ash. It was so confusing and when I asked my allies around me if they got disconnected they said "yes".

    Cyrodiil has some weird things happening in it lately.

    On XBNA the dead zones I hit most often are between Faregyl and Vlastrus, and heading from Faregyl to either Roebeck or Alessia.

    Whenever I'm running with a group without fail someone will get caught in it and freeze. Always the exact same spot.

    I think these loadscreens appear where the game's zones connect. For example, riding between the middle gate and Nikel always triggers a mini loadscreen near the NPC on the side of the road with a quest. Probably has to do with how instancing is coded.

    It's probably caused by the way in which sub-zones are split between different physical processing units of the server's hardware.
    The part responsible for the most populated subzone becomes overloaded and refuses to process any further requests.

    I have started altering the path that I would typically take between Kingscrest and Winters Peak. If I stay on the road, and then turn right on the path to Winters, I've found I'm good, but I used to typically turn right sooner and go up the hill - people freeze every time we come that way. Also, there is one just as you are approaching Chalman from the East between the small set of stairs to the right and the hills to the left. On the back wall (North side) of BRK in the keep there is actually a dead zone inside the grounds of the keep. Of course, there are plenty others, but I think those are the ones that I have fallen victim to the most!

    Cyrodiil never fails to surprise :D

    I quit PVP a few weeks ago because of the performance issues.
    I do PVE full time now until ZOS will fix Cyrodiil/Battleground performance issues.

    It would be so cool if they put up barriers around the areas that freeze, with a sign that says "under construction".
