Fool me once, shame on who?

Shame on ZOS? Or shame on me?

I wanted to buy another 60-item storage chest on the PC EU server, but wasn't quite at 200 writ vouchers yet, so I decided to buy a Blacksmithing master writ to get the few more vouchers I needed to afford another chest.

While shopping for a master writ, I made sure to check the sets called for to see how many known traits were required, since I don't know all 9 traits yet on all items. The style didn't matter, because I planned to buy the appropriate motif page and/or style mat if necessary.

So I bought a writ and accepted the job, then began searching for the motif page-- except it was nowhere to be found, because it hasn't even been released yet!

What the...? I'd seen threads about this wonderful little fact in the forums, but when shopping for master writs I hadn't thought to check that the style called for was actually available in the game.

So now I've accepted a Blacksmithing master writ for a New Moons Priest item I have no way to craft. Lovely! That'll teach me to not triple-check every tiny detail of a master writ before accepting it.

I'd rather not just abandon the quest, even though it wouldn't be a big loss in terms of money spent. (Now I know why that particilar master writ was so cheap compared to all the other ones at the traders.) And I'm not so hung up on doing master writs that I can't bide my time until the stupid motif is actually released-- at the end of next month? I'm not sure how the motif pages will be obtained-- as RNG drops in dragon reward chests? If so, I guess that means they'll be selling for astronomical prices at the traders. Maybe I should just abandon the job after all, huh?

I ended up buying a couple of Enchanting master writs and was able to get the chest, so I'm happy on that account. But it really and truly stinks that master writs are being given out for motifs which haven't even been released in the game yet!

I had one of these the other day, but spotted the problem first.

Try raising a ticket; they might give the writs back to you.

That is a bit wrong. Are you going to wait, or abandon the quest?

I'm going to keep the job for now, and just do Enchanting master writs if I want more vouchers. (I haven't leveled all the way up yet in anything except Blacksmithing and Enchanting.)

It's kind of funny, but also not very funny. I'm willing to take the blame for being stupid, since I'd already seen this issue with master writs for unreleased motifs being discussed in the forums.

Personally, I learned quickly to look at the motif required by a writ. Even if it exists in-game, doesn't mean that I either have it, or can get it easily/for a reasonable price.

Is it silly that they spawn writs before the motifs are available? Sure. But I'd put the "made the mistake of activating it" on the user. :|

(and yes, I've wasted a handful of writs due to mixing up what motifs I had, or not being able to find one on a trader. Or activating one and realizing it's in a zone I don't have / in a pvp zone I'll never enter. That's my mistake.)

At least that'll start dropping on the 22nd, so you don't have too long to wait.

I just got my crafter to master writ level and I did something like that too. I'm about 50 vouchers from the Ebony motif and then I got a nice easy writ for a pauldron. I knew the set so I had enough traits for it, I knew the motif, I had plenty of rubedite and bloodstone, and I had enough tempers, so I went to craft it...

...and Infused was one of the only two traits I hadn't researched on a pauldron. Oops.

It's been sitting there for almost a month now. I set the Infused trait as the very next thing to research, but that meant it's not going to be done until Monday night. Ah well. At least the writ is waiting for me, so when it's finished I can make it and hand it in, no harm done.

    In answer to your question:

    Shame on Zo$.

    This is really crappy.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

How many vouchers is it for?

Unless it's for a lot and as it was cheap, it would probably be better to abandon it for the inv space it would free up.

That's assuming you have more blacksmithing writs lined up to do, obviously.

    If not, you could wait.

Honestly, I find writs tedious for many reasons, already and this just adds another dimension of tedium to that.

Half of them aren't worth doing, anyway.

Either in general, in some cases, or once you factor in the high cost of a motif you don't, otherwise, need and even if you spread it across several potential writs you might get, for the same item, over several years.

Others are barely worth doing, as they give you so few vouchers...

I use Confirm Master Writ(shows needed items in tooltip),WritWorthy(queues and shows doable/craft price in tooltip),and Lazy Writ Crafter(automatically does daily crafting and speeds up master writ turnings. They make it way quicker and easier to know which are worth it,and fast to craft and turn in,and don't have to open them until you ready to turn in.
