Access login code required?

So have I been hacked?

I twice today (within the past hour) had to get an emailed login code to log in to the game (one for each PC server). I didn't need to do this this morning when I logged on to finish tickets/anniversary event.

What's the deal? Anyone else?

Are you on Steam?

If so, refer to the red banner at the top.
"We are aware that some Steam players are having issues logging into the North American and European PC/Mac megaservers. We are actively investigating and will let you know when we have an update. Thank you!"

Not, and never have, used ESO through Steam. This is standalone game, PC NA and PC EU.

Something changed between this morning and this evening.

Sounds like something reset or changed whatever "fingerprint" ZOS uses to identify your location. If it continues, I would be worried, but if it is just once per megaserver, and it does not keep happening, then I would not worry. You can always change your password, if you are concerned.

Ok, that usually means that something with your modem's IP or how the game recognizes you has changed. I would typically get this when my ISP would rotate the IP address they gave me as they didn't give static ones, so about every 4 months or so I would get a thing where they had to send a code to my email and I got logged back in just fine.

As long as you are getting the emails with the code, you should be fine. I'd be more concerned if you weren't getting those emails at all.

If you got hacked, your gold would already be gone. Since you could log right in after getting the code, your provider probably did a security update that changed your IP.

I get one of those every time I try to log in to my accounts on the website. It has to do with IPV6 for me. And as far as I can find out, I can't fix it. So I roll my eyes and get the email, then input the code.... just so I can buy crowns. And then when I go to the other account.... yeah. Do it all over again.

I think our ISP's might be doing something during the confinement for extra security.
I had this around March 20.

Since this happened on a Tuesday, my gut feeling is that you're probably on Windows and it was probably related to getting a Windows update. The smaller updates don't usually cause anything like that, but oftentimes the larger updates seem to clear cookies from your system, or something like that. I occasionally get messages like "It looks like you're logging in from a new device" when I try to log in on my bank's website, when I'm using the same computer as always, so I have to get a code texted to me so I can "register" my device yet again. This also happens to my father a lot, and since I'm his "computer technician" it's up to me to fix it for him. It's always after one of the bigger Windows updates.

Coincidentally, I'm lying here in bed typing this on my iPad, and my computer's screen just now came on to notify me that it needed to restart to finish installing an update. The smoking gun is smoking! Now when I go to play ESO later today, I'll be expecting to needa login code.

As a precaution, I would suggest changing your PW for the game and the related email. Make sure to use different PWs for each. The only way your game can be hacked is if they have access to your email as well.

I have that happen every so often on all three of my accounts; all three on the same day (which ever day it happens).
As one person said, above, I think it has something to do with Windows updates.

It happens to me every so often too, sometimes after my internet router updates, sometimes independently of that. In my case it's just that I don't have a static IP address, and every so often it will change when the ISP changes something, and then as far as the game is concerned it's a new connection.

This can happen even if you put a USB flash drive on your PC, the game will register hardware changes in your system therefore will require access code. So nothing to worry about

I know Windows updates will occasionally change something that causes the prompt to enter an access code, but Internet Service Provider changes / updates appear to be more frequent, and I don't have a static IP addy.

I've been hit with the access code thing more often on days when there *hasn't* been a Windows update, and my ISP changes stuff all the time without warning.
