Should we have Healer and Tank test dummies?

Recently I created a healer and I'm struggling to set my rotation and stats properly. It almost feels like i have to eyeball everything while with my dps i know exactly what i need to do because i can test my damage and rotations on a testing dummy before going into the actual game.
I believe that we should have some form of dummy for tanks and healers.
For the healers they should have a dummy that takes a set amount of damage that you should try to "outheal". And then calculate the healing per second the same way they calculate the dps per second.

For tanks it once again feels like the only way to test any of your builds is by going into actual combat, so it takes alot longer to adjust or make any changes to your build . Because of this I think that tanks should have dummies that deal a consistent amount of dps or burst damage. And have the dummies range in damage output to represent the difficulties of bosses in the game.

No we dont need either one because there are better ways to test those builds.

You test them by going into a dungeon and playing the role. In the same way Bloodspawn was used as a test dummy years ago.

It will be messy at first... controlling the room as a tank, keeping uptimes on key buffs and heals in a dynamic environment for the healer... but you’ll get better.

Try to find a regular group or partner so you can train them to let you get the taunt or actually stay in your healing area or stand in the Olorime circle... those thing affect your effectiveness far more than any rotation.

A test dummy can’t help you with any of that... and can’t provide you with any meaningful stats either.

The approach to tanking and healing is fundamentally different than dealing damage. There is no simple "rotation" you can keep on repeating until everything is dead, both of those roles are significantly more reactive and require "hard" practice by actually running the content.

The teaching value of this dummy will be very low.

This is a subject which crops up occasionally on the forum.
It has been covered many times already, and the general consensus in invariably the same:

Such training dummies are not needed - nor are they a good idea - because there is a fundamental difference between the DD role and the healer/tank role:
    • The DD role revolves around maximizing the damage output,
    • The healer role is not concerned with maximizing the healing output,
    • The tank role is not about maximizing the amount of damage it can absorb.

Tank and healer are support roles, and as such they have an important secondary function of also buffing the group and debuffing enemies.
In the case of healers they can also directly assist the DDs by using various damaging abilities on the enemies, when they are not busy casting heals or support abilities.

I thought a healer test dummy might be nice, but TBH, the strength of heals is rarely the problem with healers. Even a single HoT that heals 3-4K a tick is adequate when layered with other similar strength HoT's. What makes a good healer stand out from an average healer is ability to contribute to the group in other ways - additional damage, debuffs, buffs, sustain, etc. Those aren't things you can adequately "test" for on a trial dummy.
