Gamepad issues with PS4 controller.

Sorry, slightly repeated inquiry, but I can't find a solution.
I have been trying to connect a ps4 controller to play eso with some luck but mostly it's been a pita. I have been using ds4windows by the original creator, that works flawlessly with other games. It does not work at all with eso, (gamepad is on, btw). I checked properties and it is connected, controls are showing feedback. I learned that ds4w was forked off and being worked on by someone else, and that one does connect, however, even with calibration, other settings tweaked, my character won't stop moving, twitching, I can't even sheathe my weapon because he pulls it back out as soon as I hit sheathe. Inputmapper is junk, it doesn't connect at all.
I can't connect to steam because I bought the game from eso website.

If the controller is wireless, have you tried directly plugging the gamepad in rather than using it wirelessly?

I do have it wired. I literally stopped in the middle of typing a reply due to an epiphany moment...or an idiot realization and started up the ds4windows, and now it works. I didn't have to start it up when playing other games.
The only issue I have is it won't let me bind mount to holding down map button.
