Why do quest rewards give you heavy armor? Why no option?

Other online games offer you a choice.

They ask:
Would you like the armor in light, medium or heavy?

In ESO I keep getting heavy armor. Why??

Because those rewards are usually pretty useless anyway.

If you do all the quests in a zone, you usually get pieces of all three of the sets in that area I think. You have to farm for overland sets in this game, and quests are just a guaranteed extra. There is always a light, medium and heavy set per zone.

In other games, your class is set, with all the skills related to it bound to that play style. So since they don't know your class so they give you an armor choice and you pick the one your chosen class can use.

    They don’t....

    FG 1 is light

    Blackheart Haven is Medium

Rewards of the worthy are all different

In Deshaan you get an Infused Mother’s Sorrow Staff for a simple quest.

    http://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Online:The_Saving_of_Silent_Mire

So play more and grind more.... not everything is useless.

You can also use your AP and TEL to get random set pieces. Including overland set pieces too.

    Arenas give weapons
VMA on Vet always gives a weapon upon completion and a poly, plus other set pieces. VDSA you get a guaranteed weapon on Vet when finished. BRP and the mini trial Asylum Sanctorium both give weapons on normal but not the perfected version. Those should only give imo weapons on VET.

Rewards are very varied in ESO. When you have played more, it will be your RNG that will either smile on you or curse you....That will be more of a concern to you over the other. Especially when you’re trying to finish a build with certain sets.

    Good luck :)

You'd better ask why don't we have a choice not to act like some dumb waterboys ready for any hype for free, instead of making an adequate contract with a quest giver by reconciling not only the terms of work, but also our payment for our services before actually accepting the quest and hopping willingly to save someone. You'd better ask of what kind is it the shop to sell you some closed boxes with uncertain gear inside. You spend your time to earn gold, APs, keys, whatever, you pay serious money to buy a certain item, but all you can is to buy a pig in a poke. Nice! Is it the way they think it is right to make business? These are the questions you should have asked, I think.

[snip] with it's motto "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" and there's no it's distributive justice - ESO is about the last stage of feudalism and the rise of capitalism with the Guild Act already in force, with all those guild wars, rising commerce, "h.o.m.o (hey, filter! It is the latin word, you..!) homini lupus est" motto, etc. Since it is so, I want to know the terms of the work and the price the quest giver is ready to pay before we make an agreement. At least the same way it is performed with the daily Battlegrounds experience points reward - it's all clear there. But no! It is all about hopping around and helping everyone because all the options we have is either to do the job or not to do it, to buy a pig in a poke or not to buy it. Great options.

Because all overland sets (that you would get as quest rewards) and dungeon or trial gear, so basically every set that is not craftable, only comes in one version. For example Mother's Sorrow armor pieces will only ever be light armor, Plague Doctor will only ever be heavy armor, and so on. Meaning if you get an armor piece as a quest reward, it wouldn't be possible to determine the weight yourself, because it can't be changed on these kinds of sets.

So, really, you don't always get heavy armor, just a set piece with a pre-determined weight. Maybe you just did lots of quests that gave you heavy armor in a row, which then made you think everything was heavy all the time. It's not. ;)

It's their only pair of pants, and this is how you thank them?

That said, it would be nice if we got a choice of similar level gear in different armor weights or weapon types if it offers weapons.

    Lol. Exactly Bradyfjord!

It may be that the NPC only owns that heavy pair of pants. LOL!

Aren't quest rewards normally aimed around the person giving you the items or the theme of the item?

For example you help a Nord in heavy armour so they give you a bit of their heavy armour at the end.

i think it is pretty much like Turelus said - it really depends on the one where you turn in the quest. If that is a mage, you can expect a staff or a light armor piece, if that is a criminal, you will most likely get a medium piece and warrior and soldier types will be heavy or a melee weapon and sometimes it can be medium armor as well. This is at least what I observed in these regards.
