Welcome to the start of something crazily sane. The idea that maybe ideas on how to stem the growing disparities in a game much loved can come from the most unlikely of places. The Tank.
I believe in a three (3) pronged war.
I believe in a Holy Trinity.
I believe in balance.
I believe in skill.
I believe in you ZOS.
The Three Pronged War started before ESO, and will continue into the unknown future. This Holy Trinity of Tank, Healer, and DPS have waged war to maintain the balance of power, and develop the skill use of that power.
ZOS currently finds itself in the midst of Lore vs Fun vs Mechanics. They to date have shown a desire to balance the power, but also a misunderstanding of how to do it without unbalancing it again. This is due to trying to plan for the future of the game vs actual game breaking bugs vs reading all the complaints.
I am here to offer opinionated solutions to problems, based on the reality of what has been, what is, and what will be. This will extend before the gaming industry, the state of an MMORPGs, and the future due to the unavoidable confines of interaction. These opinions will most likely not be appreciated by those who play characters that are damage dealing or healing. These are the opinions of a person that has played a tank for more than 15 years (more than three (3) years in actual in game play) over three (3) MMORPGs, two (2) RTSs, and a smattering of single player games. It will be this experience on which I will levy my opinions.
These opinions that I will express at times will require paradigm shifts. These huge shifts in thought will be in relation of how to approach problems from lore, fun, and mechanics standpoints. The reason they will be paradigm shifts is that those who design, they design from the paradigm of damage and heals, and not from the point of mitigation. If a paradigm shift can not be made, power creep will never cease. A shift in ideology must occur or the power creep will drive even more players from the game due to lack of diversity in style, lack of complexity of mechanics, and lack of overall fun.
I believe you in you ZOS. I believe you read these posts. I believe you want every player to experience the rich world of TESO, that you have created, to the fullest. I believe you listen to reason. I believe you understand. I believe you work hard to provide us with great content, in an extremely short cycle. Most importantly, I believe in your ability to grow. Your ability to grow larger than confines of your original source code. I believe in your growth of mindset to exceed that of the industry around you. Without this belief, I would not offer probably solutions to current unrest.
This growth may feel similar to growing a set of wisdom teeth. It may be painful, though it will restructure the face of the game, by giving you a more definition. As in some cases nerves may be pinched, things may get cramped, attitudes may get cranky, and it might require a bit of surgery to fix. This growth is proof of your maturity. That your body of work has reached the stage where more requirements must be added. That the body itself forces these changes, because it in defined in your code. In the end that others stop and look at your face and go "That's a strong jawline. You could chisel diamonds with that."
I look forward to this process. I look forward to your feed back ZOS. I look forward to your feed back my dear ESO community.
Let us grow together.
