losing Merciless Resolve in Cloudrest

I'm playing the portal tank role in vet Cloudrest with a nightblade, using Merciless Resolve for the damage mitigation. Every time I go through the portal I lose my stack of Merciless Resolve. Since the shade of Z'Maja almost always uses her heavy attack in the first couple of seconds this is a bit of a problem... I survive it but it puts a lot more pressure on my healing than it should. The same thing happens when I come back to the main fight, I lose the stack and have to build it back up again.
