ESO is too expensive. Cost vs. value.

Subscription is $168 per year. Chapter is $60-$100 per year. That’s an average of $250 per year in costs and very often...

- Game server is down. (Can’t log in.)

- Game lag and latency (Can’t have a baseline acceptable experience.)

- New features and content are released that don’t work or are buggy. New content introduces or reintroduces bugs (Product delivered is not what is advertised.)

- This game charges way too much for such poor quality output. The quality isn’t worth the prices being charged.

Result: I stopped playing after 5 years, and I no longer hand over my cash to fund future content. The quality keeps deteriorating more and more over time.

Cancel your subscription and stop buying chapters if you truly feel the game is too expensive. If you truly feel you are not getting the value for what you pay that is your recourse. Zos couldn't care less about this thread as the monthly revenue is a poll that gives them true feedback on how people value the game.

Stop the sub and see if you enjoy the game that way.

That 168$ per year is 14$ per month, which is a very small amount. Or as most would put it "The cost of one lunch that last a whole month".

One month would have a price change of 60$ added to it of course, considering the cost. Unless you're living paycheck to paycheck I don't think it would be a problem. And if you are living paycheck to paycheck, I wouldn't be spending your money on a game.

"That’s an average of $250 per year in costs and very often..." Very often is in a year period.

I did. I stopped logging in, canceled my subscription, didn’t buy the new chapter. I check the forums from time to time to see if the general feedback is improving and it’s wave after wave of negative threads. I check my Discords to get status checks and lots of negativity as well.

When I pay $170 a month to get cell phone service, I expect the calls to go through. When I pay for game service, I expect the game to work. When I pay for a product, I expect it to perform and work. That’s why I handed over my cash.

It's couldn't care less. If they could care less about this thread then that implies they care a tiny bit and not at all which I think is what you mean.

We've all paid $60 for a game that gave us 3 days of play. Imo, $14-$15 is a solid price for a month. Now you have to ask yourself if you're enjoying the game or not. If you're not that answers your question.

Seems ridiculous to argue for a price decrease because the game hasn't been working for you.

Circa 60p a day for a game I can play relentlessly with my friends is stunningly good value.

It’s easily on a par with Netflix, Spotify, Apple Music and other digital services I use.

Way, way, way less than a single drink, a bit of a sandwich, any kind of live entertainment ticket, the cinema or a cup of coffee.

What services can you offer me that even remotely represent such value?

    ....

    Exactly...

Great. You solved the situation for yourself though that also means you are making this thread based on what some others think but that is ok.

All of us make our own choices. As you can see, some think the value is there and some do not. That is found and how the world works.

This person is spot on. It is a choice each of us makes. Announcing it to the world is fairly pointless as we do not know each other.

Full game with all Chapters: $60
ESO+ for all DLC for a year at max cost: $180

    Total cost: 240 / 12 = $20 a month.

    WoW: $50
    Sub: $15 a month = 180.
    Total: $230 or around 19.15 a month.

So it's ten dollars more expensive than WoW with a new expansion; the difference is we get a chapter and DLC per year and WoW gets one xpac every year and a half - two years AND has to wait for the release of raids on Blizzards schedule whereas we are given the trials in all one go.

If you don't feel ESO is worth the value; stop paying for it. This isn't a hard concept, you don't go to the store and buy food you hate do you?
(Yes I already saw you don't pay for it anymore so I don't understand why you felt the thread was necessary. Clearly a good amount of player base still thinks the game is worth paying for.)

By the way, ESO+ subscription is actually EUR/USD 140 per year. If you buy the most expensive monthly recurring subscription, then yes, you do pay more.

As said above, the value per hour is unbeaten.

I have no issues. perhaps you need to stop pvping and or limit yourself to only a couple addons.

this game is stupid easy. its strengths are the quests lines and stories. not pvp nor trials. it is what it is and not wow.

I don't have problems. A *** up here and there but game plays well for me. Not everyone is in the same boat as yourself. I have more fun the past 3-4 months when I came back than when I played a year ago. Regardless, I don't post here and cry about it.

    @Skoomah

Not at all. We are just expressing disagreement and we feel the low cost of the game has enough value for us.

Yes, those of us that still enjoy the game will keep paying Zos for that enjoyment. I have no idea why you are so concerned about how we choose to spend our money. It is none of your business.

This is an AWESOME game and worth every penny to me.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.
Is the glass half full or half empty?
I say, "Get a smaller glass."

    Not true

All games have lag and latency (if you get a machine that's been made in the last 10 years you'll have a more than acceptable experience)

Welcome to every video game made in the last 10 years

That's opinion but have fun with the other games that charge more for less content. You're going to be in for a shock

Result: Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

    Exactly...

I’ve got two other expensive hobbies that make this look cheap by comparison.

Hockey, $900 skates, $200 stick, $200 helmet, another $500+ in protective gear (pants, shin pads, chest pads, elbow pads, cup, compression gear, etc.) I play in 2 leagues with an average around $22 per game. That’s $44 weekly, or $176 per month though usually more because I sub as a spare with other leagues sometimes. If I am injured because my league dues are paid in advance I get nothing in return, if the arena has a malfunction with the zambo or power outage also zero refund though they try to schedule a make up game.

And in the warm months I play golf. $300 Driver, $800 irons, $100 putter, $200 woods, $200 wedges. Plus golf bag, balls, shoes, gloves, tees, etc. Rounds can cost as low as say $25-$30 if you play late on a weekday or in excess of $100 at private clubs as a guest. There are tournaments, practice balls at the range and also food and drink at the course which you will inevitably buy as well. Golf if it rains and your are past the 10th hole you likely aren’t getting a rain check. If you are at a private club as a guest you definitely aren’t getting one. If they have modified any hole because of winter or punched greens in the spring there is likely a one time discount when you pay but you are still laying out way more for a single 4 hour outing than for a month of access here.

As for value for dollars spent it’s not even close, even with the outages.

Chapter (digital upgrade) is $40. Not sure where you get 60-100. Unless you're going for either full editions (which is only if you don't own the game already) or Collector's editions (which is an optional thing for superfans, not a 'required' expense).

    And no need for ESO+.

    So, $40/year.

But, yeah, the game working better would be a nice thing.

@Skoomah your opinion isn’t wrong or invalid as some may try to make it out.

I too am like you, I used to love playing this game, subbed and bought chapters.
Unfortunately, this time last year was the straw that broke the camels back and the performance and direction of the game ultimately wasn’t worth the money and time investment that I was spending in game. I also check back every now and then so see if things are better, though sadly it seems like they are much worse, I wish that that wasn’t the case.

More power to those who are still enjoying it and feel like they’re getting their monies worth.

Quite tithe contrary. I think we all agree OP’s opinion is very valid for themselves. I think I’ve even said that specifically. However, they seem to be surprised we do not have the same opinion.

So it is ok to have different opinions but not ok to think everyone should agree.
