Request to stop putting regular crown store items into crates

Dear ZOS,

I humbly request you stop putting items that were being sold in the crown store on their own into crown crates. Are you just going to put everything that's being sold into crown crates? I really hope not. The real life equivalent of that would be going to the coffee corner and asking the barista for the special scones they had last month, and the barista answers they have now been put in a roulette. You may get the special scones, or you may wind up with a new flavour muffin.

You've done this kind of thing before though. From the most recent crown crate article https://elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/57825:
"Finally, Gloomspore Crown Crates can also contain some classic returning items, too, such as: Blacksmith costume & Auroran Twilight Warhorse mount"

From Frost Atronach article https://elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/57395:
"Finally, the Frost Atronach Crown Crates also house a selection of returning fan-favorite Crown Store items, including these classics: Witch Knight Charger mount & Milady’s Cloud Cat pet"

and I can't really even begin to quote the New Moon one but...
"Arriving this Thursday, September 19, within the New Moon Crown Crates, you can uncover a sinister collection of items to help you on your journeys through Tamriel. This includes useful consumables such as XP scrolls, research scrolls, potions, and more in addition to a selection of brand-new and returning collectibles. [...] Finally, in addition to all the above, the New Moon Crown Crates can also contain previously retired collectibles, including the much-beloved Wrath-of-Crows polymorph[.]" https://elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/56985

If you want to avoid being seen as a gambling MMO with collectibles locked only behind crown crates, stop putting them in crown crates and just put them back in the crown store where they have been before. Perhaps use the money you make from crown crates to invest in the crown store item designer people to come up with new stuff to put in the crates. But please don't put everything new they come up with into the crates either. Balance.

View this thing from a player perspective. I'm not saying make everything cheap or make everything super easy to acquire, because you need to make money too. I get that. Just consider my suggestion of a bit of customer-friendliness. Thank you for your time and effort reading this.

All best,

Good idea, but they won't stop doing it. Re-releasing old items in crown crates is both a cheap way to bulk out the reward tiers and an easy way to get money out of players who missed those items the first time around.

It's really anti consumer of them to put these items into crates instead of being able to just buy them. I want the undead skin real bad, but I may end up paying 200 euro for it because you don't get many gems. That's unacceptable

Not only that there is a chance rng can pick that item you own. Given The Meridian costume is legendary tier. I think that would be 33 crown gems.
I don't have the outfit, I didn't buy it and not going to now but there is a chance I can get it in the crate. Had I owned the the costume plus the mount there would maybe be a higher chance for rng to pick those. If so I could get like 33/66 gems from that alone. I do own the black smith and tavern maid costumes. If rng was to pick those then I could get 5 and 13 from those and items that are unlocked have a chance to be picked again giving you 5/13/33/132 depending on if you got those rewards previously or already owned them before the release of the crate.

So I think its a good thing they add previously existing items that are retired and put them into the new crate as that does help out when it comes to getting crown gems. I like that they have that because it means that you can get the potential to get more gems that could be used to buy items outright. I'm more into cosmetics and costumes and having the option to buy outright makes the crates not so bad and well there is a chance you can get the items you want from them. Then just covert the junk to get more gems. So the gems make the crown crates not as bad as they could be without the gems.
Owning the costume means you can get a potential 33 gems from that alone. So it is helpful when it comes to buying stuff from the crates.

That is, of course, if you don't get a crate full of potions and scrolls only. I did, and that's like 15 gems total for 400 crowns.

Well with 5000 crowns, which I think gives 15 crates, you can get a lot of crown gems from them. Not only repeats of items but also those small 1 or 2 crown gems stack up. Which means you can get the skin and with 15 crates there is a chance you do get the skin. So its not that bad, every crown gem goes towards the goal. Just convert all the junk.

I agree, mid to high tier items only would be more rewarding, so it’s actually worth the purchase, crown crate fluff is what makes crates a ripoff to me.

This entire post only applies if you are one of those people who constantly spends money on the crates, which is the exact opposite of what this thread was about.

Well 5000 crowns is still about 3 months of sub or very expensive to just buy up front. And then it becomes very expensive for a skin.

    I'm just not a gambler

Well for 39 us dollars with tax you can get 5500 crowns. So actually crown prices are not to bad as they are cheaper then what people might think. Ever since the Supreme court allowed the tax collection from non state providers have to pay a tax so it costs forty something for the Crowns. However not everyone is willing to buy crowns outright but there is other ways to like buying from a legitimate seller of Crown Store items through means of the Gifting system. So you can even get crates from other players. With a price of 200 per crown, a crown crate would be 80k gold. For Ten Crates that would be 800k gold you would have to pay. For 15 Crates it would be 1.2 million gold. However if you don't have that much gold well then well you could farm for it. Or sell items and do other stuff to get the coin for the crown crates so there is that option as well.

The legit crown trade center has 1 crown for 400 gold, so it's a bit more expensive.

And 39 usd is still expensive IF you are still left without the mount you want.
