Changes to vMA Stage 5 boss fight?

I've only had a dozen or so completions but one stage I've gotten very good at is Stage 5. I haven't died there in at least my last 4 completions.

Today, after the patch, I'm on my 21st death on Stage 5 and have not even gotten the boss to 45%. I'm getting juggled around (knocked back, then knocked up in the air before I land, pushing me all the way to the all) and hit by the boss when she's on a different ice flow than I'm on.

Additionally, and maybe more worrisome is that I'm completely out of stamina before the boss breaks the second ice floe. I've NEVER run out of stamina on this stage before today.

Just me? L2P? Or has something changed here?

I have like you, been having once again severe difficulty, both with stage 5 and Valkyn at The end. Personally im noticing my skills firing of less since yesterday. Very frustrating loosing seconds and watching Dps drop. Been having trouble with mostly crystal proc, but all sorc spell have been slow.

Was planning on doing a run. I'll let you know what's up.

Oh did it get EVEN WORSE? LOL!
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

When you learn the stage 5 dont over dps thing, is just a piece of cake. My personal nightmare is round 7 with that random poison stuff, and boss bugging while screaming (getting interrupted while screaming, even without a single interrupt skill in the bar, which makes him enraged the whole fight)

Already got the flawless conquerer achieviment, i'm not stepping in that arena never again.

My problem could be unique to stamplar, the other adds always group up next to the giant and in order to kill them before being overwhelmed I'm all but forced to use jabs a little- which inevitably hits giant.

Aside from disconnecting once on stage 3, I didn;t notice anything out of the ordinary. I did pay attention on the 5th stage with the Ice Giant boss. It seemed normal to me.

Thanks. After about 25 deaths, I made it through. Odd that I had zero trouble with it last few runs.

    Crashed on 6 though.

It surely not, all my last no death runs were on stamplar and there is no difference whatsoever if you know what to do precisely. It might be connected with not having expedition buff from not having VO or bow bar (which you probably have and can utilize?) resulting in being unable to keep minimal safe distance and being able to hit stuff at the same time. Any charge ability or silver leash will do wonders also.

Very good points. Hopefully they are willing to adjust their build as think I recall they do not use a bow bar.

I ran Maelstrom yesterday with no problems but that was on a MNB.

If you’re on stam, maybe there’s something changed with block canceling or something making you run out of stam prematurely? IDK?

Well, there is an option in dual wield skill line also to offset an issue, blade cloak had a cost decrease not so long ago so it might be a decent option also. Personally i run another morph but it's just details that might not fit for everybody's playstyle.

Trust me you will get through it. Took me almost 2 weeks a couple hours a day but when you get through it you have learned what to do and what to avoid. It just gets easier and easier after that. I've completed it almost 70 times and have multiples of each weapon and so will you.

There are also many great videos online so check those out too.

It took me almost 3 years. But most of that was getting stuck on Stage 5 and giving up for months.

What did it for me was READING the description of what happens when instead of WATCHING a video. The videos were little help because you're only seeing the player's screen and not what he's actually looking at. Also, most videos are woefully out of date and rely on skills that have been nerfed so heavily they are no longer relevant.

That said, there is still SO much luck involved on 7 that it gets frustrating.

Here's my take on the actual choreography for the final boss -- understanding that you can still die simply due to bad luck.

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/515136/vma-stage-7-poison-stamblade-choreography#latest

Last night, for example, I had the two shield mages each spawn on a poison plant 3 times in a row. That's just stupid bad luck.

After a lot of runs in every class, i´m pretty sure that there are at least 2 vMA. In one, you kill pretty fast all the stuff, skills like break free work as intended, and you have some little moments of struggle, but this is just to give you a reason to not sleep... and then you have the OTHER vMA. In this vMA every random mechanic is happenig ALL the time. The boss in stage 5 in spamming fear all time, Trolls always appear after the adds, Lemineids shoot all at the same time, every time you approach a boss, he makes an area, the lightning storm in stage 6 is almost all the time active, mushrooms grow always inside your umbrella in argonian arena, and the casters die even with the ridiculous damage of a Iceheart, the pools of lava are all time spawning under your feet, the flame mages shoot all at the time, the flame attros cover totally the boss in stage 8, and meteors in the upper ring seem to fall at an unusual rate, just to find that The boss teleports every time to catch the golden wraiths... This is the sort of vMA you´ll never see in the youtube videos.

If you add the lag spikes, and the balttant delay in the skills they introduced last patch, you have reasons enough to not be too worried about a flawless conqueror. It´s mainly a question of luck and multiple tries...

Ran it once yesterday and didn't notice any issue with Stage 5. Stage 7 and the stupid RGN poison flowers, however, I will hate until the day I die. :/

Well I am not using an optimal VMA build, so that could be making it much harder in other ways besides hitting giant at a bad time.

Given I only have just under 18k HP, and only Hundings and Spriggans for gear (Velidreth monster set) I could definitely be equipped better.

Even with Nord frost resist, it can't make up for all the other disadvantages.

I really need to farm better sets, but would have to do it on my healer since dps queues are eternal.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

I retired from VMA, too buggy considering it's a solo arena. Used to be my favorite challenge in ESO.

Last 3 runs there were solely for flawless title on new character. All 3 ruined by game performance. One of them I even clipped, I hit a random load screen mid fight and came back dead ffs. Pretty sad considering I have Xbox X and 300m/s net.

My first vma was during the Wrothgar event. It was laggy, frustrating, and angering. I did clear after 6 hours of solid play. Afterward I went back and played the game how I normally would, dungeons, trials, and overland.

Due to recent events and the patch, I went back in. The 2nd run took two days. Made it to stage 7 and was stuck. I began doing the research. I read, read a lot, everything I could. I watched YouTube’s and studied the mechanics mostly. Went back in and cleared.

My 3rd run went better, paying closer attention to the detail of the mechs rather than trying or focus just on the bosses and brute force to get through it. Cleared in 4 hours.

My 4th run yesterday, flawless until the ice stage, two wipes and moved through to 7 and only took a few attempts. Mostly because I wasn’t placing the shield guy in a clear area and was getting shroomed. 8 to me, is the easiest late round clear. Final stage was better than the first runs, getting the ghosts proved vital. Wore him down and boom! It was over. I switched my weapons to two swords after reading that you never get what you’re equipped. Rngeezus smiled upon me and there at the bottom of the chest. The Maelstrom Inferno Staff!!

I did it on my healer, a Templar.
Mothers sorrow weapons Destro/Resto and jewelry
    False Gods Body
    Tri-stat food and pots
Don’t give up, learn the mechanics, wear them down slowly and you’ll get through it.

Vicious Ophidian is an excellent set for vMA. Briarheart pairs well with it, but Spriggans will work as would many other sets.

It's not bad pugging a craglorn trial, even as a DD and VO is a common drop.

I run it on a nord stamplar quite often. I still don't have flawless on it yet, the closest I've gotten was 13/15, but stage 5 is not the culprit.

I changed my poison injection morph to the other that interrupts for FL HM. Imagine my surprise in stage 7 when the behemoth screamed. :(
