How do you keep motivation with a new character?

So I was pretty excited to begin a new character (Breton Templar) and try out new skills/rotation. But after a while, doing quests and visiting the zones I've already explored starting to bring on boredom. What techniques do you use to keep your interest with a new character?

I tend to lose interest in characters once I have levelled them up, and go back to my main (templar), primarily because they are quite unbalanced as I have levelled them using just random normals the odd Colman.

I am trying to get my levelled up sorcerer into a more useful position, and have also started a warden to level up. I might do a slow level up on the warden, to maximise the number of skill points at to make it more balanced.

I take it slow and rotate their leveling process with the usual stuff I do on my max level characters.

Maybe switch up your routine and allow yourself to have different kinds of fun. :)

ESO is a massive game with amazing stories, achievements, and different gameplay.

Go get those dyes unlocked that you have wanted or farm the three polys from IC if you don’t have them.

If you set a goals that give you rewards as you level up your new toon, it will kill the boredom and make it fun again. Just a thought :)

Most of my alts are doing the daily writs but not much more. However, my main PvE characters is a DC NB, but then I started enjoying PvP on EP side with an NB alt which I leveled almost exclusively in Cyro, and it's now my main PvP character and 2nd main.

Most recently I rolled a pacifist character, a 3rd NB. It's the most fun I've had while leveling since those other 2. I can barely do any quests, but I can take almost all skyshards, explore the world and enjoy how beautiful it is while being sneaky as hell. And also sort of PvP. Except for the literal PvP part. I help flip flags, ress players, repair and burn enemy sieges and camps. Once it's high enough rank I'll also start placing camps with it.

The main thing with those 3 characters is that I've played them very differently, despite all of them being nightblades. Which is probably why I find it hard to chose which one to play most days. When you do the same things over and over, it can be a bit stale. Even when I changed classes, it felt very much the same even if the character played differently. But these 3 feel unique enough that I enjoy them all.

I creat one more until I get bored again x)
I had a blast with the necro heal, but I just can't complete all like I did in my templar and warden (2 1st healer) cuz, it's just the same thing again and again...

And... I like having a char with all unlocked, even useless achievement.
So, most of the time, I still play my Templar more because of that... Stupid reason I know, but that how I'm :<

I've try to switch stam, limit CP, fun gear etc.. But always end-up bored to do all again..
I still hope one day they wake up and make achievement link to account instead of char.

I love new characters. I actually have a problem of hoarding EXP scrolls since I don't want to level them up too fast. Pity I can't sell them...

The big one for me is Bleakrock. I love that place so much, but - as the saying goes - you can never go home again. It's really nice to just go there with a new character and see the place again.

Also, stories. Each of my characters has a backstory in planning, so I know exactly how I want them to go. Maybe taking it a bit overboard considering I have 200 pages written for my main and he just finished Deshaan, and only idea which keep growing for the others, but it's loads of fun to consider how they would act.

Mostly I do a lot of testing for them though. I was considering one of my alts as a NB until I played one and it didn't really click. And events, when they're around, particularly when they can farm motifs for my crafter.

I mix up the order of the Zones, creating my own Story Archs or do the Flashback thing.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I think it all comes down to whether you enjoy the class: skills, animations, general feel of it, or not. If you do, then after the levelling process (which is admittedly painfully boring when it's your nth alt) comes the fun part of being able to wear max gear and tackle harder content. However, if you don't really like the class, there's little you can do, except maybe trying different playstyles, like having that character, as say, a PvP healer etc., and that could make it more enjoyable. I have alts in all specs, and although I want to play with all of them, there's definitely classes I prefer more than others. I guess never really comitting to learn an alt spec plays a part in it too, but at the same time, the game should be an enjoyable experience, so if you can't find yourself liking playing with a given class, then move on to a different one.

I level up new toons solely in battlegrounds, it’s great, helps me learn the class in pvp and by the time it’s 50 I have all the skills and passives I need for the build and all I need to do is gear it up and away I go

    I don't mind leveling a new toon.

I do hate leveling undaunted, psijic, mages, fighters guild and skyshard hunting though. I know you can purchase all of those now, but they're not exactly cheap.

I like my alts to be created with intent - so that, even though they are really just a mule, they are a race/class/role combo that I could play once they reach CP160. Plus, umm... lore specific nerd names. ;)

My main is; and probably always will be - my only “achievement” hunter - but when I finish all the content, or want to try a different role in a Dungeon or Trial... boom! - “oh - I have one of THOSE builds ready to go!” - is my philosophy.

I am saving one slot so I can experience the new Greymoor intro quest on one toon, at least - but hope they increase the character slot cap.

Nearly every time I play, I discover some new tangent; system; achievement; etc. This game is astoundingly expansive & varied.

I generally don't do many side quests. And even side main quests like i get tired of talking to the High Elf Queen over and over. I stick to stuff I like - Dohman's for one, gathering crafting mats while I kill stuff in the wild and delves and housing. For example when Summerset came out I did that quest line and then on a recent character. In between I skipped Summerset. Similar to Elsweyr, Orcville and others. My main has started to do some Clockwork City. I haven't been there in 3 years and a bunch of characters ago. It breaks up the boredom.

I’d you get bored stop playing the alt.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

As a pvper, i just grind characters up as quickly as possible. If you get a good grind spot and stack exp bonuses, it goes by pretty quick. Trying to lvl as fast as possible is kinda a game in and of itself, so it can be somewhat enjoyable.

If its a character I can relate to and I come up with a good backstory/RP details for I tend to keep it.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

I don't, lol. I have 11 toons, but I have up on all but eight. It's not like swtor where each class has unique stories, so I just can't do it anymore. I have a sorceress, a warrior, and a rogue. If I even think about making another toon I want to spoon my eyes out.

Every one of my alts has crafting unlocked; Rapid Manoeuvres; Undaunted; Fighters & Mages speech passives; TG; Blade Of Woe; and do Psijic Order quests at the same time I do Skyshard runs for ‘em.

I am still obvi main character focused - but a ton of quick, essentially, “talk to the guy” quests can be done to make your alts more effective / efficient / whatever your goals are for ‘em.

if a character is a bundle of stats I end up deleting them. however if I give them a story or personality I tend to keep them, as they are more of a living thing and thus harder to just delete.

    same for me.

i then powerlevel them to 50 with ench/alch writs and get them some good gear, then comes skyshard hunting and then i'm ready to go for whatever the toon feels like doing :)

My newest character is a fresh view on a Nord.

IMy first character, at the beginning, was a Nord, but at the time I was a noob and the character was so rubbbish, due to to my lack of knowledge, that I ended up deleting it.

Some years on, I have started a new Nord Temlar and am almost through Cadwell's Silver.
FYI, I am most comfortable running Stamplars and the latest character has proved the viability of this.

I can't. The moment i go with my NB i just see all the quests, and i'm like. ***ck this i already done all of these... Also i look at the crafting, and i see how much to farm for it. I have a crafter with all 50, but i don't really have the resources to make a ton of epic items for deconstruction.

Trouble is also that I have FOUND the char i want to play, my stamwarden, and shes getting just about done with everything I can. I don't hate the other classes, but I just feel really at home on wardy lol - even went as far as to make a mag-wardy named Flings-Yellow-Snowballs. But I find myself just wishing there were more quests to do for my main lol
